5 out of 5 stars Handy phone, hook one to a line and the other anywhere   June 19, 2008

I chose this phone because I needed to add an extension in a location where there was not a phone jack already installed, the second phone worked great for this.

The display is quite clear and the blue colored background easy to read. The menus are logical and intuitive. The system was quick to set up. The sound quality is excellent. The button layout mimicks a cell phone rather than a land line.

The goog-1411 feature is kind of cool. Google now runs a free directory assistance service. However, every phone in the world has this, if you dial 1-800-GOOG-411. The Google button on this phone is essentially a speed dial for 1-800-GOOG-411.

4 out of 5 stars So far so good   June 18, 2008

I've had the phone for over a month now and it has worked very well. The second handset is great for the upstairs, reception has been good and the system looks good. It was fairly easy to setup although I haven't come close to using all of the functions. The only negative so far is the backlight which initially looks cool but at night seems to light up the entire house.

3 out of 5 stars Great ergonomics, not user friendly   June 11, 2008

I was so excited to order this phone. I saw it in Staples and it felt really easy to hold. The design was slim and compact for a new answering machine. It has clear reception, however, sometimes it is hard the hear the other person because they sound very quite. We are also disappointed with the speaker phone. It is not of very good quality.

The biggest problem for me is the menu items and phonebook. It is not a simple push two buttons and you have your phonebook to scroll from. Nor can you save the caller ID numbers directly into your phonebook like other phones. The manual says the caller ID can be stored using a series of menu buttons, but nothing can be saved if there are non-numerical characters. What! caller ID has a name (non-numerical) and that is why we like it. I emailed the company and ask if there was another way I could program the numbers and they emailed me 3 days later to say call the non- 1800 number and try to talk to someone else.

A pro: The Google 411 works great.

My advice, if you want to use the features built into a phone do not buy this one. If you want a phone to just talk on and it feels good in your hand, this one would be okay.

2 out of 5 stars Returned It   May 30, 2008

I currently have a Siemens Gigaset phone system (base station plus two handsets) on 2.4Ghz. I wanted to upgrade because of the interference I now get on the 2.4Ghz (wifi, m/wave, etc.) to a new DECT 6.0 system. This model looked great but I returned it the next day for these reasons:

1) You cannot call screen from the handset without going through the menu system as the caller is leaving a voicemail to activate it.
2) The GOOG-411 is only for business numbers. It won't let you access residential
3) The display looks cramped
4) No visual voicemail indicator for the built in answer machine (it does have one if you subscribe to a voicemail service from your provider, so I does it not work for the built in system!).

I love the feature on my Siemens where every handset can call screen automatically so if you are away from a phone but anywhere in the house you can hear the message and pickup if needed.
For these reasons I chose the new Siemens model (S455) even though it is more expensive. I have not yet received it so I can't comment.

5 out of 5 stars I Love These Phones!   May 16, 2008

After trying several cheap-o cordless phone sets over the years with mixed results (bad to mediocre to ok), I decided to give these a try. Thus far I have been absolutely thrilled with their performance. My home is two stories with a full finished basement (essentially making it 3 vertical levels). These phones provide crystal clear reception anywhere I roam throughout my house - even into the garage and out onto the driveway! The built in digital answering machine is a very high quality bonus. The ability to assign special rings to incoming call from friends, family, or work is also an excellent feature that works well. All in all, I can't say enough good things about these and I highly recommend them!
