Brother, This is a Great Deal! February 15, 2008 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I replaced a Lexmarck 1150 that was part of the deal I got on ShopNBC. The brother is the "No Contest" winner here. The Brother gives sharp clear prints. The copy function works without turning on the computer. the FAX works on your regular phone line, no dedicated line needed. I feel this was a great choice for quality and value. I don't know how many miles you get on the four ink cartridges as yet, but I have discovered that EFORCITY sells ink for this and other printers for a mere 3.99 a cartridge and they are not refils, but are new and compatable. With Free shipping from Amazon this printer is a best buy.
Stylish, good working printer February 11, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this to replace a noisy Lexmark printer which was supposed to have networking (it didn't).
Setup was pretty easy, the only small issue was the manual was a version behind the installer software.
I set up the printer as a network printer on 4 Windows PCs, no issues with the setup. Also no bloatware like on the HP's. Printed a few test documents, made a couple of copies. Did have one jam, but I may have put too much paper in. It doesn't hold much.
This printer is much quieter than the HP and Lexmark MFP I had previously. Initial impression is good, I'll try to come back and do a long term update.
malfunctioning product with HORRIBLE customer service January 30, 2008 22 out of 26 found this review helpful
I had this product for 2 weeks when it stopped printing anything from the computer or from the copier correctly.
It only printed the top half of each line of print. Knowing how frustrating this is, I initially tried the Brother website to troubleshoot. I went through all the online troubleshooting to no avail. At this point I called customer service. After being put on hold for about 20 minutes, the CS rep then walked me through all the basic trouble shooting AGAIN, after that hour and repeating numerous times that i had tried each troubleshooting procedure once before I was told to buy new ink.
My current ink was ONLY 2 WEEKS OLD!
I was also told they would not send me new ink - it was my responsibility. So I buy new ink, replace the cartridges and try printing again.
Again, it has the same difficulties. Again I trouble shoot. Again I call Customer Service. Again I am on hold for 20 minutes. Again I am lead through the same trouble shooting after repeating myself numerous times.
At the end of this call I am told I can take the machine to a service dealer to be repaired (if they Can) or they will send me a USED machine.
Why, would I want a new machine when just 2 weeks ago i bought a new machine? I am told this is the best they can do and it will take 2-3 business days. I am also asked for my credit card information. Why? I ask. This is for their protection - not mine. They tell me I have 3 business days to send the broken machine back to them. If I do not they will charge my card. I relent in the hopes of a working machine.
After 3 business days I do NOT recieve a working machine, instead I am sent a fedex label to be used to first send back the broken machine and once it is received they will mail out a replacement machine. This again should take about a week.
Again I call customer service. Again I am on hold for 20 minutes. Again I am asked to troubleshoot. At this I insist they listen to me and get me a new machine.
At this point I am told they made a mistake. They will gladly overnight a new machine IF I give them my credit card information. I am told if I do not comply, they will not overnight the new machine.
Again, I relent. After my credit information is taken down they tell me they will NOT guarantee an overnight of a new machine. They simply say they will try.
Now I ask to speak to a manager - David gets on the phone. He can only reiterate what has already been said. To add insult to how little this company thinks of its customer's he offers me a $20 coupon towards new ink from the brother store. If you have looked into this machine, please look into the cost of ink cartridges. $20 will NOT buy a new set.
Bottom line is this - Brother does not care about their customers, or retaining them, or taking care of malfunctioning machines. They will not be there for you or honor a broken machine. Please pay attention to their guarantee!
Bought on sale, can't be beat for the price January 28, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Bought this printer this weekend without much research, for $80 - figured you can't go too wrong for the price, so bought it. The unit is very well built and attractive. Set-up was very simple and quick, had it unboxed and working with 3 computers on my network in around 30 minutes. I've never had that easy of an install - kudos to Brother. Haven't done much printing yet, but the few photos and docs I printed turned out very nice with decent speed. Also scanned a few photos to different computers on the wireless network. It would have been nice if they had included a USB cable and/or ethernet cable, but I had those around the house so no big deal. I am very pleased with this printer, especially for the price.
Does It All - Almost January 20, 2008 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
Brother MFC-465cn Color Inkjet Multi-Fucntion Center with Networking I just hooked my new MFC-465cn up and ran it through all the features. You need to be sure to get the paper into the ADF "just right" or it won't feed. If it does feed, it seems to be fast enough. I printed a color photo (on plain paper) and that came out satisfactorily, albiet a little slower than expected. Copying and faxing is fine. Just one real problem I can see at this early stage .... there's no way to print a SINGLE envelope without having to remove the paper tray, put in an envelope, adjust the guides, print the envelope, then take the paper tray out again readjust the guides and reload the paper. Not very practical. I'll keep it for a week or two, but if I don't find the features to be better/faster than my old HP Officejet 7110 (which is quite a bid louder and definitely bigger), I just may take it back. I also haven't connected my other computers to it yet, so don't know how that's going to work out.
