5 out of 5 stars GREAT PRINTER - GREAT PRICE   July 24, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

What a great multi-function printer! I was so surprised by how easy it was to get started. Just make sure you follow the steps according to the manual, ie. getting it all ready before you install the software. It doesn't come with the USB printer cord, so that's something you can take from an old printer (if it's the same type) or you'll have to get it elsewhere. I bought this for my mom, replacing a terrible HP printer that stopped working for no reason. The color printing quality of the MFC-65cn is great and the ink cartridges are so easy to click in. All I can say is buy it! You'll never find a less expensive, all-in-one machine like this.

1 out of 5 stars Awful Customer Service - NEVER BUY THIS PRINTER - CONSIDER THIS AS THE BEST REVIEW   July 19, 2008

I would have rated 0 stars if there was an option. I brought this product recently on amazon.com. I received the printer in an extremely great conditions - no cribbing here. Once I installed the printer and started using the printer, for no reason the printer goes offline and I don't know how but after long time it comes back online. Printer is power on and connected to my home network router all the time but I cannot print any documents as long as the printer status is offline. I called Brother customer support at least 3 times in 12 hours since I installed the printer and this is one of the WORST, PATHETIC, AWFUL (and you can add many more along these lines). There is no reference to my previous call hence every representative I talk to I need to explain the complete problem. To add insult to injury, they have one department which deals with hardware issues (this guys took his own sweet time to resolve my issue) and when he realized that he was of no help stated that this is a software issue and transferred me to Software support group. More injury here as the Software support rep did not get any of my previous call details and had to explain him the problem one more time. After making me to quite a few "minor" troubleshooting and wasting good amount of my cartridge and uncounted papers (while asking me to print test page, configurations page, etc), he did not help me. I have made a decision to return this printer and never in my life buy any product that is support by BROTHER support team - If I can exaggerate for the sake of emphasis, I might stop using windows operating system in case Microsoft ever decides to use BROTHER as their support partner.

In spite of this review if some one decides to buy this printer (the printer as such is worth the price), hope and pray that you never have to call the support guys. GOOD LUCK.

5 out of 5 stars looking good   July 16, 2008

I have found this Brother MFC-465cn Color Inkjet to be very efficient so far. I have not had the opportunity to "test it out" printiong photos yet but hopefully will get that underway soon.
However, I have confidence with this product and expect it to perform as I want with the pictures.
I have been very happy with what I've experienced with this color printer since it has arrived in my home office.

4 out of 5 stars For Mac Leopard users   June 3, 2008

I was skeptical about buying this unit after reading some of the other reviews, so I thought I would share my experience.

My setup: connected via ethernet connection to Airport Extreme, accessed by old G5 tower and new MacBook Pro both running 10.5.3.

Setup was a breeze. The software install took about 5 minutes. I was quite surprised that I did not have to further update anything from the net.

Connection was simple although the location of the ethernet port and USB port is odd.

Calibration check passed out of the box.

Plays well with phone line (doesn't interfere with voicemail or anything like that)

Scan feature works better than I had expected. Works well from the icon is the menu bar and allows for some great preset tuning depending on what you want to do. I used one of the custom presets to do simple B&W scans of receipts for expenses and can even default the folder it saves to.

I don't use this as a primary printer (have color laserjet) but printing is ok. A bit slow for my tastes, but I bought the unit primarily as a scanner, fax and copier.

My only real complaint so far is the ridiculous packaging. Stickers, tape and all sorts of crap you have to pull off. After unboxing Apple products this is a real shocker but only lasts a few minutes.

4 out of 5 stars Compact and cheap to run   May 19, 2008

This replaced a Brother MFC210 and Canon MP160 at home. Things I like:
Cheap--Consumer Reports rated this as one of the cheapest (i.e., ink) to use.
Compact--note the picture--no external paper feed or trough sticking out. It's all inside! I LIKE my desk space.
Ethernet hookup--I no longer have to keep a computer on so others can print.
Display--I didn't care too much about this until I noticed the caller ID displayed. The display gives a status of your phone line. Nice.
Easy to set up--no problems having wired and wireless computers detect the printer during setup. No IP address to setup.
Print quality is good. I haven't tried photos--CR says this is mediocre. Card reader works fine. Cartridges are very easy to change--no need to open the printer because the access is on the front.
Copier reduces the image on the fly.
