A Little Giant September 30, 2008 Sheldon Leonard This camera is da bomb! so simple to use, and what professional type photos! This is a little pocket sized pack of dynamite! Canon rules! A breakthrough in the "point and shoot" digital camera field.
great September 30, 2008 Di & Ted (Maine) love the camera, told three others where to get it, and gave it to my daughter for wedding gift. Easy to use, and will do more than I even know how to ask it to do.
Dreaded Lens Error...SD870IS is a Ticking Time Bomb September 28, 2008 Play Ball (Torrance, CA United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This was my first CANON purchased back in 3/08 and just got the dreaded lens error today. The lens will not retract nor focus anymore. I figured I couldn't miss with a name brand like CANON, plus I'm the type who is very careful with cameras. I did not see this coming at all and don't recall reading about this prior to purchasing. But after a little Googling, there are a ton of reports by consumers about this error, NOT ONLY WITH THE 870, but with MANY POINT&SHOOTS by CANON. I've previously owned an OLYMPUS and SONY P&S, and never had any problems with breaking down. This camera has just about everything you would want in a point & shoot (ie, wide-angle lens, large preview screen, quality movie mode, multi-focus points, image-stabilization), but it's really a ticking time bomb, since you never know when the lens error will render the camera useless. Many consumers have reported that CANON WILL NOT fix the problem for free, even if it's under warranty...I have serious problems with that. I hope others don't take this review as a disgruntled consumer complaining about an issue that doesn't happen all that much. It's been widely reported on the web, just search for 'canon lens error'. If CANON's point&shoots didn't suffer from this glaring problem, I'd give this camera 5-stars, but until they fix this problem, I don't see how anyone could give it anything more than 1-star, if not no stars. Spend your hard-earned money on something that will last. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CAMERA.
My husband loves his new camera! September 25, 2008 Willow weep for me 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The camera was an anniversary gift for my husband. He is really pleased with his new toy. He likes the compactness of the camera and the ease of using the features. The pictures and videos come out clear, and the camera is user friendly. I wasn't sure how he would rate the camera; he might have given it 5 stars if he had been writing this review.
