4 out of 5 stars Great All in One Machine   September 19, 2008
R. B. Hollingsworth (Houston, Texas)
We have had the C7280 for about a month now. This is a great home machine; it does everything and because we can put it on the wireless network the whole family can use it.

2 out of 5 stars prints good, scans terrible   September 18, 2008

Everything scanned had a yellowish tint. Total garbage as far as scanning is concerned. The printing was good though. Printing photos from cameras looked great.

Software is very controlling. It chooses where your files should go. Won't let you use certain directories. Every limited manual controls.

I ended up with an Epson Artisan 800 and it is a totally different world! Way, way better. Perfect scans, perfect prints, great touch screen, and controllable software.

1 out of 5 stars software so buggy i had to return the printer   September 17, 2008

As many have reported, the software for this printer is really buggy. It causes everyone's computer to hang on shutdown and it caused both of my computers to not be able to hibernate automatically anymore, even after I uninstalled the software. I strongly recommend that everyone STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRINTER! Seriously, the software will screw up your computer. Just google 'deviceIO and HP' and you'll see it's not just an isolated problem.

2 out of 5 stars Not robust enough   September 13, 2008

This is not a very robust product and definitely not suited for the small office environment. After it's first paper jam that was dealt with in a slightly incorrect manner, I was presented with an error of "ensure the photo tray is pushed all the way back". I never used the photo tray, as a matter of fact, I never intended using the photo tray, this was just the cheapest network printer I could find. However, because the photo tray was malfunctioning, I could not use the scanner, the fax facility, the printer or even the copier.

Not recommended if you want something robust that will be used by more than just a very careful owner.

I'll give it an extra star for it's looks...

5 out of 5 stars Works great with both Mac & PC.. But get updates first   September 13, 2008

It worked very well for me.
I am using it with Mac & Windows & no trouble with either and it is doing all the functions I need wireless, However there are two issues to consider seriously:
1. Make sure your operating system (Win or Mac) is updated & has all the fixes.
2. Do not install the driver from the CD that came with the product as the available driver from HP.COM is the latest & will consequently serve you better.
And last but not least, while hp offer you a basic "get you there" driver, if you want to enjoy wireless scanning & other features, I suggest installing the full package.
Finally about Color printing:
I read some inaccurate reviews about colors coming out wrong etc.
Color matching is an issue far from simple & before one blames the devices, one should check a number of much relevant factors.
An image that appears beautifully on my desktop's top-of-range monitor looks really sad on my laptop and looks further different on this printer and the simple reason is profiling in addition to hardware capability.
To explain this, I have a 7900 series photosmart in addition to this printer, I have used a profilig device (iphoto one) to calibrate both my monitor and the 7900 printer and as a result, what I see on the monitor is what I get out of the 7900 printer as when I want to print, I tell my editing software to keep these profiles in mind.
Using the same computer to print the same image on the 7280 gives me a very different result as I have not profiled the 7280 yet.
Setting a standard for the computer, monitor, printer is key to getting accurate results when it comes to getting accurate colors granted that your toners & everything else are healthy.
