HP C7280 Printer February 8, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Overall a pretty good printer. Physically larger than I expected. Scanning of documents seems a bit slow. I have Vonage phone service and have not found a way to hook up the fax, yet. Printing is fairly quick and printing of photos is also.
Not for Leopard Users Ye February 7, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
HP has taken down the 10.5 drivers it had posted for this printer on the web, claiming they were buggy, and has not posted anything in their place. So, since the disk that comes with the machine only goes to 10.4, Leopard users will find this printer does not work as well as should be expected. After a long wait, I was told by HP Tech Support today (2/7) that the drivers might be ready for release by March, presumably this year.
Software Nightmare February 6, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This Printer All in One is ok although printing is not too flexible and complicated to setup for odd size papers etc. The software is not too compatible with Microsoft and is an absolute nightmare. I have spent 2 months with HP trying to get it worked out and can't. It causes both my computers on my network to lock up or run really slow. Would recommend another brand not just an HP model.
SUPER all in one powerhouse January 31, 2008 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Great all-in-one, at a reasonable price, with excellent features, this Photosmart C7280 is clear WINNER. It works (smoothly) with Vista out of the box. Setting up the wireless functionality is a bit tricky but can be done with a little patience. Yes, there is a delay between print command (in wireless mode) and the printing but you get used to it as the output is of very high quality. If you go USB the printing is fast and furious. Inks are EZ to check and change. So far, cannot find a single fault with this new HP combo. I would head for HP support early on and check for downloads. I found an important/critical one the first few hours after completing my install. My recommendation is... BUY this NOW. This replaced TWO printers; what a deal! HP got this one right.
quality printer, wireless convenience, few complaints January 19, 2008 We've had this printer for a couple months now and overall its been quite good. The wireless convenience is great and setup was quite straightforward - no different than adding any other device to your wireless network. If you're comfortable with that, this should be no problem. If you're not, the instructions are still pretty good.
Print quality is nice, and the ability to print two-sided is really nice to conserve on paper without having to do it manually. There is a brief pause (~5 seconds?) before it flips pages to allow the ink to dry, so don't do it with a big document if you're in a rush - its clearly a home, not office, printer.
We haven't done much photo printing, but, what we have done, on the glossy photo paper has been very good. I'm no photophile, but from a layman's perspective, it looks as good to me as real photos.
I've seen a lot of comments on here about the drivers. I've seen what you're talking about because I've seen it on previous HP printers. They always want to be running things in the background and start things up on reboot, etc. But, I have *not* experienced that nearly as much with this printer - really not at all. Perhaps those reviews were using older software versions or something, but these HP drivers are much less obnoxious than those I've seen in the past.
Btw, I have a Mac, and the printer has had no issues with working just fine from a Mac - although I haven't really done any scanning so I can't comment on that.
Finally, the fax capabilities and document feeders are a real nice convenience for a home. I don't need to use an office printer/fax over lunchtime anymore for occasional faxing needs.
A couple small downsides: - the ink is more expensive per volume than most other printers. If you do a lot of printing - especially photos this may be worth considering. But in a couple months we've yet to dent any of the reported ink volume, so for us its not a bit deal. - It does take probably 10-20 seconds to boot up and makes some noise while doing so. It also takes 5-10 seconds to shut down. So its a bit more computer like than your standard printer. It could annoy some people. - I've measured and the power brick uses about 4 watts of power even when the printer is turned off. Do yourself a favor and save ~50 cents/month on your electricity bill by unplugging it or flipping off the power strip when not in use.
