Great printer June 4, 2008 David J. Schafferman II This seems to be a great printer with great clarity and speed. It was also an amazing price at $166.00 from Amazon.
Great product, lousy software June 2, 2008 S. J. Mihic (Austin, Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We've had the HP C7280 for about a month now without any real problems. Scanning, faxing, printing and even picture printing have all worked out as well as I had hoped. Even the OCR program worked when I tested it. I had no trouble adding this printer to my wireless WPA2-encrypted network. That's the good part. Here's the bad part - the software blows chunks. When I first got the printer I went straight to the HP website and downloaded their Photosmart Full Feature software/driver package to run the printer. Big mistake - it is a huge memory hog and there were times when I had to wait about 10 sec whenever I tried to open a Word file. I have no idea why this happened (maybe because the printer wasn't on then?). Some things just seemed to slow down as soon as I installed that HP software. So, I wiped it off my computer and went back to the HP site and this time downloaded just the Basic Drivers. Much better. Not nearly as fancy, but everything works and it's unobtrusive. So, in summary, great printer but I'm not a fan of their software package to run this thing - just get the basic driver package instead.
Works fabulously for the family June 2, 2008 D. Wilson (Detroit, MI) We have 4 kids and this printer is hooked up by netowrk. Kids and wife can just print from the various PC's and notebooks we have with no problem. My wife loves the faxing ability and the kids print photos. Seems to be everything we need in one device. Have had no problems using this printer with Vista, XP or our Mac's.
Finally a Marriage made in heaven Mac & HP June 1, 2008 A. P. Vitale (New York) I have been a fan of both Apple and Hewlett Packard for years I believe both companies make quality products, For some reason whenever I would put the both of them together there was always some glitch that prevented the HP printers from working seamlessly with my Macintoshes. Well I am happy to report that at least this product the HP C7280 and my Macs get along wonderfully. From set up to daily use everything is as it should be. This is an AIO All In One unit that prints, scans, copies and faxes in BW & Color. Every one of these features works flawlessly even over the network, from your computer or directly from the printer itself. because this unit has built in wireless network compatibility or Bluetooth compatibility you can even send pictures from a wirelessly compatible camera directly to the printer. This unit can even be used to print pictures off one of its six media card slots or scan from original hard copies back to any computer on the network. The 7280 also has a multi sheet feeder for faxing or scanning as well as duplex (dual side) printing. The HP is also nice to look at (not as nice as the new Samsung Black Laser ) and will certainly fit in with any home office set up decor. The multi ink cartridge system provides fantastic color reproduction and with HPs new long lasting inks should hold up for a very long time. The fact that one can replace each color as needed is a bonus as well as the the inclusion of the double capacity black cartridge. Now if you believe like I do that the entire computer industry was formed to be able to sell ink jet printer cartridges you will understand why this wonderful unit can preform all these functions for such a little price. The cost of these inks are quite steep no higher than the competition (excepting maybe Brother) but still come on. This is the only reason I have given this printer a four star rating instead of a five. Otherwise this printer is a pleasure to use.
Too many software problems!!! June 1, 2008 Joe First of all.... I'm NOT a computer expert. I'm a grad student who just wants a printer, copier, scanner, faxer to work. I do not do fancy computer complicated processes. I bought this printer to replace my broker printer. My last printer was the version before this one came out. I loved it. It was great for almost 3 years. Granted.. it did not do everything this new printer does (or should do). My main problem with this printer is software related. When it does print, it's pretty good. When it does scan and fax, it does it pretty good. The printer is good if you only want to printer or scan a few papers at a time. If you scan >50 ish sheets.. it will freeze on you (low rez). With Vista, it will kick your printer out (until you update your software online). It seems that HP pushed out this printer out the door before they could finish fixing the software bugs. If I had known that I would have this many problems with this printer, I would have bought my old version again. It didn't have that many opinions, but at least it worked and I did not have any problems with it. IT DID IT'S JOB. This printer promised a lot and did not live up to its expectations. All I want is a printer, copier, scanner, faxer to work. Trying to network this printer with 3 other computers has been a nightmare. This printer is best plugged into one computer doing simple task. The whole wi-fi idea just pushes it over the edge. If HP would get their act together and fix the software problems with this printer.... I think it would be a great piece of equipment.
