1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!   May 14, 2008

I should have known better.

I did enough research to be aware that some people have had problems with these printers. I selected this one because it seemed to have better reviews then some other Epson printers that print on DVDs.

I received the printer and installed it.
I printed about 4 pages and got a message that said that three of the ink cartridges were not recognized and needed to be replaced.

I tried to resolve the issue but removing and replacing them accomplished nothing as did contacting Epson.
They did not offer to replace the bad cartridges but would replace the printer if I sent it back.

Against my better judgment I purchased and replaced the ink on my own.

The printer worked for about a month and now I am getting the same thing, a message that says that the ink cartridges are unrecognized. Once again this issue can not be resolved.

Since a new printer doesn't cost much more then more new ink and I don't want to go the hassle of packing up and taking the printer to a UPS location I'm just going to dump it in the trash and spend some time researching a new printer today.

Do to the lack of help I received from Epson I am not going to buy another Epson printer but will look at Hewlett Packard and Cannon.

At this point I will forget about printing on CDs (the reason that I selected this printer to start with) until someone else makes a printer that will do so.

This printer was worse then useless and so was Epson support. They will not even admit that this is a common problem.

Like I said save your money.

Mike

1 out of 5 stars LOTS of problems with my Epson Photo   May 11, 2008

After years of happy photo printing with my Canon i960 I replaced it with my Epson R280 Photo. When my Epson works, it works pretty good. When it doesn't work (50% of the time) it is awful. VERY hard to figure out why it isn't printing right. It is a crapshoot to guess which ink is out. Sure it has a gauge but whenever I replace the one it shows the lowest, it doesn't fix the problem. Neither does cleaning the heads repeatedly.

This has been an exercise in frustration for me and I can't imagine ever buying another Epson printer again. That is sad because I used to think Epson's were really the very best printers made. Not any more.

4 out of 5 stars Nice pictures; pricey ink   April 28, 2008

Fortunately my printer worked great right out of the box unlike the unfortunate souls who had trouble (I'll admit their troubles made me slightly hesitant to order this one but I threw caution to the wind). The only caveat is that I've had trouble using anything other than Epson photo paper. Other papers don't absorb the ink fast enough and they puddle on the top which causes them to run and bleed together; not the image quality I was going for. Yes, yes I realize Epson recommends using only their paper but all printers recommend using only their papers despite the fact that there are multitudes of off brand photo papers manufactured. SOMEONE must be using off brand paper with success; it just ain't me. It does print off really nice quality pictures on the Epson paper.

Now, having said all that I will just have to decide if come time to replace the ink if I'm going to actually buy the cartridges or just buy a new printer--a new printer is cheaper than the cartridges! So, no five stars for you, Epson R280!

4 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD printer   April 27, 2008
MyFriendKokoro (Newcastle, WA)
I purchased the Epson R280 to specifically print on DVDs and am extremely pleased with the product. The printer setup was straightforward, software was easy to use, and, most importantly, the results were amazing and met my expectations.

Since a printer cable was not included, I specified four stars instead of five.

4 out of 5 stars Cudos to the R280 Printer   April 26, 2008

I recently purchased this item because I wanted to print CD and DVD labels. Not only does the printer do this very well, it is amazingly fast for an inkjet printer. The software setup was easy and only took a few minutes. Learning the DVD Print software is easy and intuitive.

This product is everything it says it is. I am happy to recommend it to anyone.

Service from Amazon.com was first-rate as well (but I'm sure you knew that).
