Good recorder - fairly easy directions to follow September 7, 2007

When I first ordered this product they sent the VN4100, not the PC one. So Amazon exchanged it for the correct one. Following the directions to insert the date is easy but apparently it doesn't keep "tracking" the date because every time I use it, the original date displays. It is a pain to keep changing the date or maybe I just haven't committed the directions to memory yet. I'd rather turn it on and have today's date displayed. The reception is good and recording is not difficult. I find using 3 different folders for recording a little confusing. Be sure to remember to use the "hold" button as an on/off switch or the battery will wear down too quickly.

The quality was good, my only drawback is that it didn't accept files from the PC. It will send files TO the PC, but not accept them FROM the PC. Therefore I sent mine back and upgraded

Got this recorder for the wife. She attends meetings/lectures and wanted a way to be able to listen later to gather more info. This is used in group settings and works great. Can hear both the leader and people asking questions. Easy to use. She has a hard time with new electronic equipment, but took to this with minimum of problems.

I attend several meetings every week and find the Olympus VN4100PC a very convenient and useful tool, especially as I can then upload it to my computer for future review.
The reproduction is clear (8/10), even at a "round the table" meeting with several parties present and the 144 hour recording time is more than anyone will ever need.
At a tad more than $45, it's a must for any businessman who simply has to remember everything that was said and who said it. I highly recommend this unit.
