I bought the VN-4100PC to record a long distance phone call, to have a record of the conversation. I got this product specifically for the PC connectivity. It recorded the phone call without problem. But when I connected the device to the PC to upload the files, it erased all the files on the device.
This will be returned immediately, but in the meantime I think consumers should be warned.

Item works great, but will not connect to my Vista 32bit version. I downloaded new drivers from Olympus and still nothing.

I purchased the refurbished models of the 4100PC for about $[...] shipped on Amazon.com and I'm impressed. The unit works great and has all the features I need. Works great and like new for a refurb. Has Olympus 90-day warranty as well. This is a mono recorder, so if you listen via headphones you get sound out of one side. They have stereo voice recorders but are higher priced.
1- USB port for easy transfers to PC
2- Time stamps and folders for organization
3- 12 hour recording time on XHQ (highest quality recording)
4- Voice activated recording, so it starts recording when you start speaking.

I love the higher capacity (24hrs) on this unit, much better than the old recorder I had. The unit works really well, no real complaints. The battery compartment I wish was more firmly attached, I have no problems with it falling off right now, but in theory it could, it does fall off if you drop the unit.
