Olympus DS-30 Digital Voice Recorder the right tool for the job May 20, 2008 Anthony Groce (Metro Detroit, Michigan) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased the DS-30 for use both in meetings and individual interviews. It has excelled in both venues. The three settings for mic sensitivity really work well. It does a stellar job of recording the quiet people at the other end of a meeting room and still recording 1 on 1 interview conversations with good tone quality. For a reliable, unobtrusive, and high performing recorder I would buy the DS-30 every day of the week.
Very high quality recording. May 15, 2008 K. Wagner 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I use the device to record one-on-one interviews outside, under the flight path of a very busy airport. The voice recordings are clear even in the presence of airplane noise, sirens, and traffic. I have used it 4 times so far and am very happy with it. I use the DSS software on a Mac running Parallels and Windows Vista. For the most part it works fine, though there is a bit of a buffering issue. Microseconds of the audio drops out using the player this way. Playing the audio using a QuickTime conversion and the Mac OS resolves the issue. I will eventually transfer to a PC when it's time to transcribe the recordings using the Olympus transcription pedal. I was afraid this was too much recorder for the job and considered going with something like the VN4100. It still might be too much, but the quality of the recording is just fantastic.

To see this gem, it's hard to believe it's strenths. I use it to record the two bands I rehearse with. No cables to mess with, no long set up, hit record & forget about it till your done.Download onto PC at home, recording comes out well enough for demos.
Awesome April 30, 2008 PMan (Chicago) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my first digital voice recorder. I'm a psychologist and use it for recording therapy sessions. It's great for doing supervision with trainees as well. Simply awesome. I love it!
