4 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable phone   November 1, 2008

I've had this phone for a little over a month now and I can say I'm pleased with the purchase. I'd been a flip-phone person up until now, but playing around with it in the Sprint Store eased my transition.

The phone fits nicely in your hand, even in a protective case which I also purchased with it (also has a sleeve-style one included).

As for the camera, it's decent enough for quick snaps that have a decent amount of ambient light, but no there's no flash; though my experience with a flash on a cell phone made little difference anyway for pictures in low-light situations unless you were inches from the subject. For the review that said it took fuzzy pictures, I'd say make sure you've got a clean lens and enough light. When I talk on the phone, my finger naturally want to fall right on the lens so I always make sure I clean it b4 taking a picture.

I'm also a fan of the plan choices that come with it since they include everything up-front and there's no nickle-and-dimeing you to death for added plan features.

Pros:
- Battery life: comes with 2 batteries, each with a talk time of 5.75 hours. I don't know if I've come that close to that but I do get more talk time then with my last phone rated at 3.85 hours. I can say that I can put a battery in and not change it few a few days. I've also not seen significant battery loss texting or surfing the web.

- Ease of use: the interface is intuitive and fairly easy to use.

- Touch screen: it's responsive. I've got big fingers and only have minor trouble once in a while when I'm texting hitting the keys correctly. Also lets you switch from a qwerty-style landscape keyboard to an alphabetic portrait keyboard for one-handed operation, to stylus input. Also has decent spell check capabilities.

- Visual voice mail: nice feature that lets you see who's left you a message and enables you to review, play, and delete through the interface.

Cons:
- TV/Video: I've had trouble watching any tv/video on this phone; I'm going to take it in to the store and see if it can get corrected - if so I'll update this review.

- Customization: the interface isn't very customizable, and the background only is visible when the phone is locked. Though there are menus that you can add and subtract items from; it'd just be nice to be able to do more.

- Nowhere to put stylus: they give you one w/nowhere to put it, not even in the case that comes with it or the one I purchased for it.

All in all it's a very competitive product to the I-Phone while still having its own personality, and I like Sprint much more than ATT anyway.

5 out of 5 stars Iphone killer? No. Great phone? Yes!   November 1, 2008

I've had this phone for more than a month and I love it. It's not as good as the iPhone (I had since the day it came out) in terms of design and usability, but on it's own, it's fantastic.

Pros:

It does pretty much everything the iPhone does--including Youtube.
Slick design.
MobiTV.
GPS with voice (a must for driving).

Cons:

Phone is buggy. MobiTV will crash the phone a lot.
No tap = zoom like the iPhone has.
No Wifi. Why couldn't they include this? The 3G makes up for it though.

If you're looking for a good phone, but don't want an iPhone, choose the Instinct. It's a good cheap alternative to the iPhone.

1 out of 5 stars THE WORST SPRINT PHONE EVER!   October 15, 2008

I've been a Sprint subscriber for over 4 years now and THIS is by far THE worst device ever! I got mine a few weeks ago from a famous place-your-bid site for only $80 used with all original content. Even at this prize I feel I got cheated. The phone is high voltage suckage. Trust me, I tried, the device did not. The web and the media player are SO sluggish even at EVDO speeds. It does NOT run on 3.5G.There's alot of tools missing and the reason is that they are not compatible. The device crashes more often than my smartphones. I thought maybe the phone was defective so i took it to the Sprint repair shop for a check up and turns out that's just the way the phone works out of the box. The landscape keyboard is a real pain, worst than the Palm Centro's tiny keyboard. Anyway I'm done writing, if you still want to buy it dont pay $200, most certainly DONT extend your contract just to get this. My suggestion is if you're looking for a full touchscreen phone try the HTC touch smart device, it goes for about the same price as this one, posted here on amazon. Or just wait till they start making Sprint phones with 3.5G capabilities, Blackberry Bold!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Phone   September 4, 2008

First off i just want to say to the people that gave this phone a low review are crazy. First off were reviewing the phone not sprints service if you want to review that go elsewhere. And if you do want to talk about sprint service i was treated very nice at a sprint store got in got out in bout 30 min. The plan was priced reasonable 69.99 month for 450 min. If you talk mostly at night like i do then the free night and weekend works well. This phone is amazing ive had it for just about two weeks. Everything you want is in this phone GPS, Web, Several Email Accounts, Digital VoiceMail, Up to the minute scores for all sports teams, Showtimes at your local theater, Weather, i mean the list goes on. The only thing that might be a little complaint is there is no background on the phone just menues and favorites. But its not a big deal. The thing i liked is they give you two batteries and an adaptor to charge the extra battery. The camera is decent i mean if your using your phone as your main camera for everyday use id say ur an idiot but it takes good enough pics. All in all i give this phone 5 out of 5 because of all the features it offers. It didnt get best in show in 08 for nothing.

4 out of 5 stars I Love the phone   September 4, 2008

I've had the instinct now for two weeks and think it's the best Phone introduced to the Sprint network in quite sometime..It sounds great , I listen to streaming Radio and its great to checkout all my Email at once. I also like to add I purchased this from Sprint Customer care on a Monday and received it on a Friday , I was also forewarned of the possibility of it being on Back order ....so to all who aspire to own this Phone go for it, its worth every penny
