5 out of 5 stars Works Great with Vonage!   October 26, 2008
Sean F. Pereira (Earth)
While there was nothing wrong with my old cordless panasonic phone, I decided it was time to bring the new wireless telephone technology into my house. I picked up this phone at Sams for $89. I would have ordered it online but the price and the ability to take it back to a Brick and Mortar was ideal incase it was not up to my liking.

I setup the phones to charge overnight and programmed them all this morning. I have the base unit plugged into the wall in the bedroom and one handset in the living room and the other in my office/mancave.

So far I really like the phones. I set the time on one phone and that trickled out to the other two handsets. That was a nice suprise. I also like the ability to program numbers into the address book and being able to beam them to the other handsets. I just called my parents and the voice quality was superb! There was no indication that the call would drop at all. It sounded like they were in the room with me.

As another reviewew mentioned, the caller ID does not display what is in the address book on the phone.
I give is a 5.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible Phone!   October 25, 2008
C. Claudon (Florida)
Based on a wonderful experience with my last Uniden phone I bought this latest, greatest version. This thing is great except for the constant dropped calls. The phone will disconnect with an "out of range" message every few minutes which is absolutely maddening and completely unusable. Uniden support is a total joke and I have yet to be able to talk to a person. In addition the 3080 series has a big problem with dropped calls if you look on the internet and yet the troubleshooting page at uniden doesn't list this for the 3080. Run far and fast from this phone...

2 out of 5 stars Good system if you live in a bungalow (ranch) or small wooden house   October 22, 2008
ghard1 (Ontario Canada)
I purchased the 4 handset model of this system for a rather large house (3500 sq ft) - why else would you require 4 handsets. At first, I thought it was a pretty good system which had most of the features I was looking for. This unit was to replace a wifi interference ridden 2.8 ghz system.

The DECT technology definitely remedied the interference issue. The phones have decent quality speaker phones and the ability to name handsets like "kitchen", "master bedroom" which is why I purchased the Uniden over the Panasonic phones which don't allow this. So everything was good so far.

Unfortunately after a bit of use, I encountered the same issues many others are having - dropped calls and out of range issues. The base unit is centrally located yet the handsets are out of range once I reach 3 of the bedrooms (second floor) and virtually anywhere in the basement. I do live in a wooden framed brick house so it's far from a concrete bunker in which case I would expect to have wireless issues.

Another annoying feature (which I believe is the case with most wireless systems) is the inability to find one handset missing from the base. For example, if I am in the kitchen and the handset is missing, if I press the "find" button I would assume the kitchen handset would beep. Unfortunately all 4 handsets beep at the same time making it rather difficult to find the one I am after.

To sum it all up, DECT technology is great for those experiencing WIFI clicking and other interference. However, at least with this system, if you have a fairly large house, you'll want to ensure wherever you purchase it has a good return policy because mine is going back. If any telephone manufacturers are reading this, the first to create a system with the following features will be able to command a good premium for these units. My ideal phone system would consist of:

* Expandability up to 6 handsets
* a mix of corded and cordless phones which allow internal paging between all
* Allow friendly naming of handsets such as "kitchen", "den" etc.
* Build a wireless repeater for hard to reach places or allow 2 bases to be used yet still allow for handsets paired to different base stations to talk to one another - Better yet, allow base stations to operate in a mesh network configuration.
* Have a privacy feature which notifies the caller if another handset is picked up (Sanyo does this)
* High quality speakerphones
* Allow assigning of charging cradles to a handset with a find feature which causes a single handset to ring, not all.
* allow paging over speakerphone so if I am in the kitchen, I can remotely enable all speakerphones in the system and speak over them.

I'd pay upwards of $500 for a system which would allow me to do most of the above and I am sure others would too!.

4 out of 5 stars Great phone system   September 25, 2008
A.R. (Maryland)
I have used mostly Panasonic telephone systems in the past. This is my first Uniden product. I have used this telephone system for over 2 months. I have not had ANY drop-outs or "Out-Of-Range" errors that others have reported. I would assume that there may have been an early production line issue. I would be curious to see how others would have rated the phone if that issue were taken out of the equation. I have categorized my review features into Good, Bad and Ugly.

The GOOD:
-Terrific sound quality
-Stylish design
-Lightweight handsets
-Speakerphone feature on each handset
-Ability to add 3 extra handsets (6 total) simply by dropping them in the base for 5-10 seconds.
-Ability to customize the name of each handset for intercom ease-of-use
-Ability to page all handsets via intercom at once or one at a time
-Multiple ringers
-Organized menu interface and button icons
-Message indicator light on each handset
-Ability to check your messages from any handset
-Ability to send your address book entries to each of your handsets without re-entering them.

The BAD:
-The handset will not turn on the back light of the display until it is taken off the charger. This makes it difficult to see who is calling until the handset is lifted off the charger and activates the back light
-Only a 2 digit code for answering machine message retrieval...not that secure
-Price
-The handset volume and speaker phone volume are very audible; however, I do tend to use the highest setting on both. It would be nice if there were a louder setting but I doubt anyone would complain the volume is not high enough.
-No talking Calling ID (though I have usually turned that feature off on my Panasonic phones because it gets annoying).
-No use of speaker phone with intercom. I'm not sure if there is a phone system that does this, but it would be a great feature (like a quick & easy baby monitor)

The UGLY:
-I have two least favorite attributes of this phone system:

-There is the "extra" bottom row of buttons on the handset that have the same look and feel as the number buttons (This is the reason for the 4 star rating). Every other phone I have owned has the * key, 0 button and # key on the bottom. Or, if there are other buttons beneath this row, they look or feel very different or are spaced further down on the phone. This phone has another row of buttons directly beneath * key, 0 button and # key. This extra row of buttons is for redial, mute and speaker phone. Uniden should have made this row a different size or spaced it further down on the handset. When a telephone number has contains a zero (which is usually the button found on bottom center of a handset), it is too easy to hit the MUTE button instead since this is the bottom center button on this handset. This takes some acclimation.

-The answering machine recorder does not cut off when you pick up a phone that is not part of the Uniden system. For example, if someone is calling and you pick up another phone after several rings (a Panasonic phone on the same line for example) after the answering machine has already picked up, it will not cut off the answering machine recorder. You then need to manually delete a "message" of you talking to the person on the answering machine.

SUMMARY:
-I have not had ANY drop out issues reported by others
-If you can live with the "extra" row of buttons at the bottom of the handset and frequent need to delete "messages" of you talking to someone else on the answering machine, this is really a great looking and great performing telephone system. Overall, I would recommend it without hesitation.

5 out of 5 stars I moved the wireless router and now I don't have any dropped calls   September 24, 2008
Lynn (Mansfield, OH)
I just deleted the first review I did on this phone. We had 'out of range' errors, lost signals and dropped calls daily! That was getting old. After talking with customer service I decided to move my wireless router about 6' away from the phone's main base. That solved my problem; we haven't lost a phone call since!

We like the customizable features for each handset, and have given each one their own name, color and ringer tone. The colors can be softened or made bright for the viewing that you like best. There are at least 3 wallpapers to choose from, too.

Each handset comes with its own belt clip. I attach the clip to my shirt, turn on the speakerphone and my hands are free to crochet, type or leave my pets in/out, well, you get the idea.

I wish I could turn the volume up a little, but I don't have any problems hearing the conversations. Other than that, we love these phones now that we don't lose any of our phone calls.

*The handsets need to be charged 15-20 hours before you can use them.
