3 out of 5 stars Know what you're getting...   October 20, 2008

Be aware that the base unit's (very slightly distorted) digital answerer, (somewhat faint and hard-to-read when backlit) LDC display, and (OCCASIONALLY--i.e, for SOME problematic calls/connections--not quite satisfyingly loud enough) speakerphone will probably seem merely "tolerably adequate" to the majority of users (or perhaps "downright unacceptable" to a minority of "fussy" users). Nevertheless, this "consistently functional" product is a *fairly* good deal at Amazon's price (including shipping). However, I'm speaking of somewhat casual, "home" or "hobbyist" (not "business") use. This most assuredly would NOT be an ideal model for serious, "business" purposes.

I rather like the cordless DECT 6.0 handsets, which have good sound/clarity, including even their built-in speakerphones. [Good range and rather pleasingly long talk/standby times between charges, too!] However, their keypads aren't illuminated, nor are they (or the base unit) headset-compatible.

All in all, this product scrapes about a "three out of five stars" rating. I myself get lots of amusement and fun out of it, but then I'm something of an "integrated-phone geek," and I own SEVERAL comparable products. By contrast, the average consumer would, frankly, probably be a lot happier with a competing model providing better answering-machine sound quality; better LCD clarity; and (sometimes) a somewhat higher "maximum-volume" setting for the speakerphone. [At about the same price, the Uniden DECT2088 is a better performer in most respects--except that (in addition to the corded base unit) it includes one, not two, CORDLESS handsets.]

That said, where ELSE are you going to get not one but TWO cordless, DECT 6.0 handsets included in the bundle for SUCH a low price? If you're not TOO terribly picky about the base unit's LCD legibility or the sound quality of the answering system's outgoing announcement and messages; and if you'll mainly be using the cordless handsets, then this bundle just might delight you, as it (generally) does me!

Bottom line, if you're fussy about the above features, don't waste your or Amazon's time by ordering (and subsequently returning) this model. Instead, spend more for a competing brand/model. BUT if you're an easygoing, tolerant type, go ahead and get a total of three handsets at a fairly good price, and just keep and ENJOY this not-quite-perfect yet nonetheless reliable, functional, and FUN product exactly as it is--"(tolerable/minor) warts and all"! I do!

This is a quirky phone. The caller ID is never right. With certain calls the phone will emit a clicking noise during the conversation that is very distracting. I have had several callers complain how bad the phone performs. After 4 months of use I can't stand it anymore and need to invest in another phone.

1 out of 5 stars These are decent but not great   August 27, 2008

The Phones have several flaws. The base has a funky echo sometimes, the callerID is always wrong, assigning past caller's names to phone numbers at random. The phones feel funny, too small to hold comfortably.

Clarity is good 90% of the time and the microwave and other appliances in the house no longer effect phone calls as with non-DECT phones.

I would not buy these again.
