The Siemens Gigaset S455 DECT 6.0 digital cordless phone system was developed with convenience and versatility in mind. DECT 6.0 technology provides interference-free communication, brilliant voice quality, and enhanced security. This is overall, an excellent phone. If needed be, I would buy again.
What I liked -
1. Excellent call quality - both for you and the person at the other end.
2. Don't have any problems with reception within and outside the house
3. 150 names directory
4. Upto 32 digits can be stored for a number - generally enough to store a calling card number, the access code and the contact's number together
5. You can dial in tandem - call a number, then dial any of the numbers in the directory after that (again useful for calling cards etc.)
6. It stores 10 of the last dialled numbers
7. If you don't have a pen/paper handy, you can record the call to recall any information later
8. The fact that if you see an unrecognised number(telemarketer?), you can divert the call right away to the answering machine - don't have to listen to more rings than you want to.
9. Very good battery life and the fact it uses readily available AAA rechargeable batteries
10. Speed dial for 8 contacts, additionally, 1 reserved for dialling your service provider's voice mail
I didn't like -
1. Slow response - especially takes a while to register key presses while in a call. Given today's level of customer service, you have to do that a lot...
2. Has only 5 levels of volume, should have more, as another reviewer noted
3. Poor skill level of customer service agents. I had a problem that the phone would prefix a '1' to any of the local numbers that I dialled from the received calls list. It took me a while to figure out that I need to enter my local area codes in the menu provided (I feel foolish when i think back about it). But Siemens customer service (even in Germany) couldn't point that out despite my informing them that i left the local area code fields blank and even set to '000' in trying to resolve the issue.
This phone is truly advanced than the other phones I am aware of in the market. What is surprising, though, that there is no cordless phone as feature rich as even an entry level cellphone. And those cellphones are cheaper than most of these 'high end' cordless phones.

This is an excellent phone. I love the look and feel of it, the screen is very nice and the menus are easy to navigate, similar to a cell phone.
The quality of the speakers on both the handset and the base is great.
I love the option of sending a call straight to the answering machine if I don't want to answer, instead of waiting for the machine to pick up.
The "hold" music is a little odd (a bad electronic rendition of the first movement of Mozart Symphony #40), but it can be easily disabled through the settings menu.
I also love the fact that the phone is actually made in Germany by decently paid EU workers, and not in some factory in China. To me, that fact alone is worth paying a higher price.
I did have a problem with the caller ID not working when I first plugged in the phone. However, I figured out this was a problem with the phone outlet in my kitchen and not the phone itself. I plugged it into a different outlet and now it works perfectly.
Overall this is one of the best phones you can buy. I highly recommend it.

Received defective product. Called Siemens and they verified defect and asked that I return it to vendor - Antonline. Vendor gave me RMA number and stated that I needed to pay for return (even though it was defective). There response was "You are responsible for return shipping. Just like you would have to take a defective or buyers remorse return item back to the brick and mortar store you purchased it from or send it back to the manufacturer for warranty service". They use the internet to sell product, yet when it comes time to return defective product they play by the rules of what they refer to as a "brick and mortar store". Finally, read over their explanation of why it takes up to 30 days to credit your account. Its so convoluted that it really goes out of its way to insult ones intellegence.

The phone has excellent audio quality, specially the speakerphone, but be aware of the 'mute button' elevator music, make sure to turn this off it the opposite what you expect from 'mute'. The answering machine has 35 min of storage and lets you know how much is left, the audio quality again is miles above the AT&T I had before.
If there is a drawback its the 'Call Waiting' part. Its seems the only time call waiting works as one expects is when you are on an 'internal' call and receive an 'external' one.
The display is bright and easy to read the instructions pretty clear.

It is the best phone I ever had. Very good voice quality, a very long standby and talk time, the menue is very easy like a selphone. For me the best phone ever.
