Great for landline + vonage October 28, 2008 Hopefully Helpful (Twin Cities) I read the reviews and was mostly influenced by the customer that used this phone successfully for landline + VOIP. I had no problems using it for landline + Vonage...worked out of the box...the battery was even charged up. It works down 40 feet of hallway into the living room with no static or distortion issues. This Vtech wireless, to my hearing, makes Vonage sounds the same as when I plug into the internet box directly. The only reason I'm rating this down is that there should be a battery charge indicator always present on the remote LCD screen...and there's not.
Performs quite well July 17, 2008 Murry Shohat (Santa Rosa, CA USA) I've enjoyed use of several IA5879's for about a year -- in the family room and bedrooms. All of them have worked well and there is no interference. You don't want to make the mistake of placing a handset on the wrong base -- I found this out and paired each set so we couldn't get it wrong. Some of the reviews I've read might be about early units with problems. I guess you need to match choice to need, and that means research. I researched heavily before getting the 5879 -- there's not a lot of competition in the 2 line wireless market. The users in my home each reports their phone works well. The wired phones replaced by the Vtechs did not have line status lights, so everyone has learned to listen before use in our home and all has been well. No one has thrown something because they were rudely interrupted. If someone is using the handset in a given room, the line indicator lights up on the base, so another person knows to use the free line as a speakerphone. My wife and I do this all the time. Yeah, I'm line 2 and she's on the speaker. And her calls are 10 times longer than mine. The contact directory, caller ID and speed dials suit each user just fine. For biz use, I suppose more numbers would be nice. For home use, these are very good, no need to break the bank. No one has reported interference when two handsets are in simultaneous use. The speaker phone base is terrific. Sound is clear (handset sound is good, too. Most of my calls are on the speakerphone and none of the people I call has complained about the sound. Another potential benefit with the Vtech is to use one of the line as a regular landline, and then hook line 2 to a Voip service for the long distance and foreign calls. Did anyone mention that the phone is pretty? Visitors have commented. Good phone hunting!
Hate It. May 23, 2008 Stuart Siegler (Alton Bay, NH) I got this phone as a replacement for my Uniden TRU-8886 2 line handsfree Things I hate about this phone: You cannot mute the Handset You can store 20 phone numbers in the handset; you can only store 10 of "speed dial" numbers in the base (that you have to program separately) The Names in the address book are limited to 15 uppercase characters Name/Number phone book entry is abhorant, and times out quickly, losing entry-in-progress There is no End/Cancel Key on the handset. You press and hold PROG to cancel. The headset jack is on the side of the handset, but in the center, making carrying while connected awkward I would not recommend buying this phone, and will probably replace it with another of the uniden tru-line.
Ok product, nothing special though May 4, 2008 ha-evolution (ECWI) If you need a basic speakerphone + cordless phone this one is ok. Not as good as Panasonic though.
Faulty Telephone September 3, 2007 Horace R. Winney (Forks, WA United States) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
After having the phone company come to check out our phone lines we were told we had a bad phone. Line one does not work. Please tell us what process to use to return this phone for a new one. Thanks, Ray Winney
