A well-designed system for home offices or talkative family members, the Motorola MD7081 is built to handle two separate phone lines. Expandable to a total of eight handsets, the system includes a 30-minute digital answering system with two mailboxes. The base system is the only part that requires a phone jack, allowing you to add extra handsets wherever you like. Each handset can operate as part of an in-house intercom system, access conference calls and even function as a baby monitor; each also includes a headset jack and belt clip for hands-free operation. The answering system is accessible from each handset, as well as the base, and allows memo recording and messages to be forwarded to cell or office numbers. With subscription to local service, each handset is call waiting/caller ID compatible, storing up to 50 names and numbers of the most recent callers. Numbers can be stored, deleted or moved into the permanent phonebook with just a few clicks. Twenty-four selectable ringtones are available, and the base is wall mountable.  Unreliable phone with a lot of problems May 14, 2008

I've lived with this phone for 2 years, but have never loved it. From the start there were problems. Now it's no longer working and has to be replaced. Not a great lifespan, considering I paid $200 for the base station and extension handset.
Here are the main problems with the phone:
1) Handsets go "out of range" unpredictably and drop the call, even when you're right next to the base station.
2) Battery life is unimpressive. The handsets go dead quick.
3) Sometimes I can't pick up a call. The phone will ring and I'll "answer" it on the handset, but nothing happens and the phone keeps ringing. It happens randomly and is very annoying.
4) The address book is poorly designed. You can't jump to names, but must manually scroll through your whole address book (scrolling is VERY SLOW). So if you have 50 names and you're looking for Zach, it's going to take you awhile.
5) Newer issues the phone has developed: No matter how many times I reprogram the clock to the correct time, it resets to a time about 6 hours off. No idea what the problem is. It affects the base station and all the handsets.
I am really looking forward to throwing this phone in the garbage.

I am very happy with this phone, it works well and I get great reception. But I ran into a big problem when I tried to expand my system. I went online to find another handset/charger. The cheapest I found was a factory refurbished unit for $130, new units run anywhere from $250 to $300. Yet I can buy a base unit and 2 handset/charger (Model #7091) for $125. Don't know if Motorola stopped making the handsets separately or not, but I am really confused by the pricing to the point where I am thinking of just getting a whole new system.

I purchased this phone to replace an AT&T 2-line phone that was fried in a recent lightning strike (in spite of 2 upstream lightning protectors) and have to say that the low price was a prime reason. But I have been very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this phone - it's much better than my former phone (which was four times the cost) in both phone quality, convenience (speakerphone on handset, caller ID on handset) and price. It was so good my wife insisted on replacing her working 2-line phone with this one, which I did. I have not delved into all the fancy features - but the basic phone operation seems very good.

I liked many features of this phone but decided to return it because of the following shortcomings:
1. When you are talking on Line 1 and a call comes on Line 2, you can't silence the phone. that makes it impossible to continue the call on Line 1 unless you leave the room.
2. The speaker phone and redial keys are so small as to be invisible. I aksed my friend to look at the phone and turn on the speaker phone. After searching and staring for several minutes she gave up.
3. The range is significantly less than my old Uniden 2.4 Ghz. I used them side by side. I lost the call on the Motorola while I still had a strong signal on the Uniden.

This was actually our second Motorola phone we purchased. We used it it expand our home phone system and we couldn't be more pleased. Unlike other competitors' systems, the Motorola MD7081 is a user-friendly 2-line system that has decent battery life, is attractive to boot, and provides ample volume and quality audio sound. It's feature set is just what we need. It's a must buy digital phone.
