Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
No, it's not red - it's green Okay, just about everyone has a red laser pointer. Heck, we even sell a fine one here at ThinkGeek. But, we're pretty sure you want to be a superior geek - and doing it with a green laser is the way to go. This pointer is significantly brighter (about 50 times) than a red laser pointer and because of its unusual color it is much more noticeable. I mean come on, a 532 nm green laser wavelength is obviously superior to a laughable 650 nm red laser wavelength. And unlike a red laser, the green beam itself can be seen in mid-air in dark conditions, not just the laser beam dot. This allows the green laser pointer to be used for pointing to star constellations (skypointing) and also just generally look cool as hell. The green laser beam dot can be seen at much greater distances than with a red laser pointer. Since green direct injection laser diodes aren't readily available, this pointer is based on the use of Diode Pumped Solid State Frequency Doubled (DPSSFD) laser technology. A high power IR laser diode at 808 nm pumps a tiny block of Nd:YVO4 generating light at 1,064 nm which feeds a KTP intracavity frequency doubler crystal to produce the green beam at 532 nm. Features of this unit include: Very bright green laser at 532 nm wavelength Output power of <5mW (Class IIIa Laser Product) Range of approximately 9,000 ft (2600 m) in darkness 1.1 mm beam diameter at source Momentary push button switch Solid, heavy duty construction Constant wave ou

5 out of 5 stars Green Laser   January 26, 2007
My kids love this thing. It's really cool to play with it when it's snowing. I can see the dot over 1 mile away on the co-op elevator tower. Eats up batteries fast though. lol

5 out of 5 stars Green Laser Review   January 4, 2007

I gave one to my son who is a math teacher and he hasn't put it down since Christmas. The green laser is visible when pointed at something half a mile away and it's cool to see the beam all the way if there's anything in the air for the light to bounce off.

3 out of 5 stars Not all are the same   September 14, 2005

I have purchased 3 of these laser pointers, the first 2 where ok, but the third one even though it was supposed to be stronger than the other 2 came with a defect and is far less powerful, the dot allso has a halo around it where i think the power is going, i dont know why these is but was a little dissapointed with these third laser.

5 out of 5 stars Great laser pointer   September 7, 2005

This is a great laser pointer and the brighter wavelength of the green laser makes a huge difference. But to see the beam (not just the dot at the end of the beam) you need some sort of particles in the air for the light to bounce off of. Using the laser pointer with a little dust or mist in the air will make the beam clearly stand out. And if you are wondering, no matter how bright your laser is, without particles in the air you wont see the beam. At concerts where they use the big argon lasers, they always have fog machines near them to give give the laser something to bounce its light off of.

5 out of 5 stars Don't let the action shots fool you!   July 30, 2005

I bought it after seeing all the "amazing" action shots on ThinkGeek.com, though it was somewhat of a disappointment when I couldn't see the beam in daylight. The brightness didn't disappoint, though. In fact, it's so bright that if you look at the dot long enough (not directly in the eyes!), it'll make your eyes hurt. This does have a long range, so you should be careful of where you aim it, since the police doesn't like it when you aim lasers at their heliocopters.
At night you can see a beam come out of it, though it's really thin and not as bright as the action shots would like you to think. Overall, it's a good toy to play with, but if you're planning to use it for stargazing, don't do it in an area where airplanes and helicopters will go by, the police or FBI will get mad at you.
