Nice All-In-One but noisy. March 10, 2010 Wayne (West Palm Beach, FL USA) When it starts printing it would be best to be in another room. Good quality prints though. Great price & fast delivery.
Excellent product March 7, 2010 JoJo This printer is the greatest. And the price was even greater.Shipping came quickley and it was packaged very good.
Poor Text Printing February 24, 2010 T. Church (LANCASTER, CALIFORNIA United States) Relatively fast printing. Since the industry standard is to rate 15% of a page to determine print speed, I seriously doubt any printer will ever live up to it's rated speed. But, in real world standards, this does print relatively fast.
I'm unimpressed by how fast this printer prints, since with "text quality" printing, it is unacceptable. Due to the fact the most common complaint about this printer is ink waste, I attempted to print in "draft mode". Draft mode is inherently poor quality. However, I was shocked as to just how poor it was. My previous HP 2400 series (many years old printer)"fast draft" mode (that HP had "fast draft" "draft" and "normal" modes, and higher quality)is light years ahead of this Epson printer's "draft" mode; and text quality mode, for that matter. Text quality is, as stated before, unacceptable, particularly if you print anything that requires someone to read the document; such as a note to self, on your things to do today list, like Return Epson Printer; immediately if not sooner. If your needs require something more professional, such as a resume, use of this printer will most assuredly hinder your chances of getting in the door, and will more than likely find it's way into the "circular file".
"Text quality" is extremely light and extremely jagged. Video cards use a feature to sharpen video, it's called antialiasing. This printer needs heavy antialiasing to sharpen the edges, to provide crisp and sharp text.
Since I have already made it known I have no intention of keeping this no-quality printer, I would have no problem wasting ink to test higher quality print levels. However, I wish not to waste the paper.
What makes this so bad is Epson's claims of great print quality. "Budget printer without the sacrifice" I recall seeing. But, the reverse is true "Sacrifice without the budget printer", if all the claims are true of rapid ink consumption.
The software available is moderate, at best, providing basics for photo editing.
Contents include the printer, instructions, power cord, ink cartridges, CD with drivers, optional software. I guess a $100 printer does not afford the company to spend the extra nickle for the required USB cable. Fortunately, USB cables are cheap enough now I had plenty around.
Final Thoughts:
Not worth the $50 paid. Granted, I don't expect laser print quality for $50; despite Epson's claim it is twice as good. But, I don't expect my own handwritten print to be higher and better quality either. And, here is the sad thing: people have spent the full $100 on this. I suspect an extra $20-50 spent on an HP would be worth the extra money.
Edited to add additional thoughts:
Drivers updated. Printed an article using Best Photo quality, and of course there was improved print quality, yet, unbelievable results. Even with this printer's best quality, the text was no better than what one would expect from a printer at default settings. Interestingly, the text I printed used an 18-20 pt font size, in the tubular type variety, and in color. In "Best photo" the result was similar to a photo print on normal typical non-glossy paper. Blurry, and muddled. A smaller 6 pt font in black came out as if printed in fast draft.
One another note: the printer can be extremely loud. After updating the drivers, testing in normal text and image quality mode, upon print start, I was startled by the "crashing" sound from the cartridge's motions. A Lexmark I had did this once, and needless to say, it didn't last very long, as the damage to to spool was too intense to absorb the shock of completing it's cycle. I suspect the same would be true of this printer.
The cartridge did move slower on Best Photo quality, so, that would be a way to prevent excess damage. If you're willing to go through ten times the ink, to save a sub-par over-priced $50 printer.
Prepare To Buy Lots of ink February 23, 2010 Tom Ranieri (Chicago) I bought this printer because it was such a good deal. The price was $44. But I recommend against buying it for one simple reason: it goes through the ink (even the colors you don't use) like water. It prints fast - really fast. I tried to print a photo over the weekend and was really really disappointed. So, if you like to spend lots of money on ink, this is the printer for you!
RIP OFF! February 14, 2010 Angela C. (Eau Claire, WI) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
BEWARE!!! If ANY, that's right, ANY!!!!! ink cartridge is empty, you can't print PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!
So if any of your color cartridges go empty, you can't even print in black and white/grayscale! What a scam!!!
