Student life just got easier! November 4, 2008 T. L. Christian (Sacramento, Ca) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the IRISpen Express in the hope that it would make the endless research projects I have for college a little less time consuming. I always found it tedious and disruptive to have to stop reading to note a phrase or quote for use in a paper. Also, it is time consuming to have to refer back to those little sticky notes when it is time to type up the paper or even to compile the research for review. The IRISpen makes it much easier to simply sit with a book and read it as usual. When I come across a part that I want to include in a paper or even just keep on my computer for use in a blog or webpage, I simply scan the page number and the passage I want to use. Done. I have blasted through 4 library books today in the time it would have taken to work through a one or two because I dont have to stop reading to type. I set up my laptop next to me and start a heading on OneNote with the book that I am reading. That way all I have to do is scan it like a highlighter when I see something I want. This little scanner has made life as a student much easier and less time consuming. Im also one of the most organized students now, because all my notes are digital and can easily be searched. There are, of course, flaws with the pen; it isnt perfect at recognition so it is important to review the text periodically to fix spelling errors. It helps to calibrate it before using it every time, which thankfully takes about 5 seconds. Other than that, I have been very pleased with the IRISpen and I would recommend it to busy students or professionals who have to organize printed material for any sort of publication.
Iris scan pen October 14, 2008 Angel Stout (Missouri) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had two of these pens so far, and both have broken within a couple week's time. I'm not sure what is wrong with the internal components of this pen.
A real time saver for citing sources with quotes & research notes! October 2, 2008 I. Nexica I was a little afraid to buy this, with about as many detractors as promoters of the device in the reviews here. After receiving it and staring up within 15 minutes, I'm glad I tried it out! I find the character recognition excellent and send the scans directly to MS Word - I just place the cursor where I want to insert the scan, and it's right there! I think that if you're having problems with character recognition, you could consider recalibrating the device each time you go to a new place. It's sensitive and on cloudy days when I'm scanning in the living room using ambient light, the output quality can range just because the sky gets darker and lighter than when I calibrated it. I can predict bad scan quality by keeping the scan window open and looking at the quality of the scan pre-OCR - if the scan is light or dark, recognition will go down. Luckily, recalibration is very easy, or you can scan somewhere with a more constant light supply. With constant light, the accuracy is about 90+% for me, and learning how to hold the pen and how fast to scan took just a few minutes out of the box.

I was well pleased with the IRISPen Express 6 Pen Scanner, it did everything it claimed it would, and is easy to install and use.
Terrible August 26, 2008 B. Harman (UT) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this thinking that it would be great for college. Well now I am trying to see how fast I can return it. This was so difficult to use. You had to angle it just right or it would not work and it was even harder to get the whole word. I tried doing it out of a textbook and it was impossible. I would not suggest spending any money on this at all.
