1 out of 5 stars Run away from the XK35c   September 11, 2003

Have had the XK35c for about two years and using it only occasionally. Printer cartridges are expensive and very hard to find. Printer part of this multifunction device works fine. After one year of very little use of the copying and scanning features, the corresponding module started failing. Ridiculous. I called XEROX and they referred to a third-party company that provides service support. This company immediately tried to replace my printer for a refurbished one...

1 out of 5 stars Don't Go There   November 17, 2002

I've had this THING for about 6 months. I have yet to get it to scan anything without crashing. Sometimes it prints, sometimes it doesn't. Mostly it crashes. When it does print, the quality is lousy. The printer drivers stink. I've got Windows 2000 and I keep getting errors. Because of these drivers and their quirks, I have lost all my printer set ups (and I generally have 4 or 5 printers set up at time) at least 3 times which has required my office's IT staff to rebuild them. I am not some casual computer user either. While I am not the biggest geek on the block, I'm a pretty sophisticated computer user who can get himself out of most trouble. This thing has completely defied all my efforts. Don't bother even considering it. Its not worth the trouble.

1 out of 5 stars if you like . . ., poor . . . buy it.   November 15, 2002

This is by far the worst investment of my life. I've spent weeks trying to get it to work. USB doesn't work for windows 2000. You can't use the scanning software it gives you. The customer support is horrible. Never ever buy this product. I warned you!!

2 out of 5 stars Not the greatest value   February 19, 2002

Though I have seen some positive reviews on this machine, I have a hard time believing that these people are actually using the same Xerox WorkCentre model I am . I purchased the all in one for use at my office which is made up essentially of me and 2 other employees. According to the packaging, it was supposed to print close to laser quality text. NOT EVEN BLOODY CLOSE! My black text constantly has small scratches in it or is wobbly. Now you might be thinking, just realign it or clean or change the ink cartridges. I did ALL of this on numerous occassions to no avail. The best however came when I called Xerox customer service. After waiting an eternity to get a breathing person, I explained my problem, did what the technician told me to do, and no luck. I was expecting him to tell me then to send it to them for repair or replacement (still under warrenty). Once again, I was wrong. The technician told me that if I sent it out all they would do would be to realign the cartridges (something I had already done at least 3 dozen times) and clean the print heads (again, I had already done it). Essentially he said I should grin and bear it.

Now, I had no thought that this would print with quality equal to a laser printer, but I didn't think it would produce text of less quality than my old hp 600 series printer.

The scanner has been another source of joy. It does a relatively fine job when it chooses to work. The Pagis software is great when the scanner decides to cooperate. Again, Xerox customer service essentially told me there was nothing they could do about the scanner issues. When it does work however, the scans are quite good and the ocr software included was good when I got the machine back in 1999.

Another joy that comes with this machine is trying to find the print cartridges, it is not as easy as you may think and the price, a wee bit high.

The machine did all it could for me until this January when I replaced it with an hp printer. I had in spring 2000 purchased an hp multifunction which had already replaced my xerox for scanning and copying.

On the plus side, the xerox has been generally dependable, though it is certainly tempermental. And, before anyone blames my computer, I have used the xerox with three different machines with the same problems in all cases.

I would however, never buy another product from xerox. I had expected more from the "document company." I have a certain sentimental affection for my workcentre so it will stay in the office, had Xerox customer service been in any way helpful, or at least explained to me why I was having the problems I was, or offered to replace the machine (which was still under warrenty), I am sure my opinion of the product would be a bit higher

4 out of 5 stars Great printer, but newer Lexmarks may be better...   December 7, 2001

Before reading this, I would check reviews on the new Lexmark all-in-one devices, since they have higher scanning and printing resolutions for the same money.
==================================
I bought this unit about a year ago (...). :-) The scanner on the first unit I picked up was actually broken, so I went back a week later and got a replacement. I'm sure this isn't a common experience...

I have been pleased overall with everything about this printer/copier/scanner. The print speed is reasonable in normal mode, but a little slow in high quality mode. If print speed is important to you, find another product. Personally, speed is not an issue - reliability and quality are all that matter.

My only COMPLAINT is the ink cartridges. I guess I didn't print very much when I first got this unit, so the cartridges got clogged up and didn't print well. I probably wasted half the ink running cleaning cycles! PRINT AT LEAST A FEW TIMES A WEEK, you'll end up saving money (and frustration) in the long run!

When the cartridges finally ran out, I saw the price of new cartridges and almost fainted (...)!!! I could have bought 2 brand new inkjet printers for the same price, so I decided to try refilling my current cartridges, hoping they would clean themselves out after even more cleaning cycles.

I bought a black/color refill kit from Jet-Master (...) that should last me as long as I own this printer. Then I experienced more cartridges headaches for a few months, and finally considered selling my printer, but miraculously, my printer started printing better than ever.

I am very glad I didn't sell this unit, because I realized that I can print near photo-quality color pictures when using high-gloss photo inkjet paper. I also realized that a lot can be done to fix inkjet cartridge problems (i.e. cleaning sponges with alcohol, cleaning ink tank with hot water, etc.)

If you don't run into cartridge problems (and will never buy new cartridges, i.e. you will refill), you will love this machine. It's very easy to use, produces good quality black and color output, and takes up less space than an individual printer and scanner.
