1 out of 5 stars Don't buy if you want to print on CDs/DVDs.   September 15, 2008

I bought this printer a year ago and loved it (past tense). However, when my computer died and I had to replace it, I cannot get HP Photosmart Premier software anymore because HP has discontinued it. Now I have a printer which is only good for color printing. That would be okay, but I bought this printer just to print CDs. (I already have three other color printers.) I would sell this one cheep!

4 out of 5 stars Good printer with great features   July 31, 2008

So, as you probably already know this printer is called HP Photosmart 5360 but Amazon listed it as HP Q8361A#B1H for some reason. Well, this printer is not perfect but is best suited for my needs. The bundled software had an annoying feature which showed a popup window everytime, and everypage, duplex printing was used but this bug has been fixed in the update.

Pros:
1. Unassisted duplex printing. Print on two sides with the included duplexer. No more paper waste, or waiting while printing odd pages to flip over to even pages. Best feature!
2. Can print in black and white when color ink runs out. This may seem like no big deal but it is. Many printers will stop printing in any color if any other color runs out.
3. Ink backup mode. This is a mode where you can still print in black and color once the black ink cartridge runs out or is removed. This feature uses the color ink cartridge to reproduce black. This is truly great and is a money saver along with #2.
4. Prints on DVD. Unfortunately I didn't yet get to test this one out, but I've heard good things about it
5. Photo tray for printing 4x6, 5x7, etc photos. I don't really print many photos but the photo I printed looked good.
6. Cartridges are not chipped with encryption, so you can buy aftermarket ink. This would be good for ink savings, but the truth is you are better off buying the 74XL and 75XL official ink.

Cons
1. Small ink cartridge. The normal ink is small, but you can get the 74XL and 75XL cartridges which cost twice as much but pack three times the ink. Not a bad deal.
2. Duplexer protrudes a few inches from the back of the printer. No big deal really, unless you are that low on desk/floor space.
3. Slow duplex printing. You have to wait a few seconds before the page is flipped. I guess this is done so that the ink on one side of the page can dry.
4. Only has two cartridges: black and color. However pros #2 and #3 more than make up for this. Plus, many of those 6, 7, or 8 ink printers (esp. Canon) do not allow you to print after any one of the ink cartridges runs out.
5. Is not a laser printer and cannot match the quality of one. But what inkjet can?

Overall a very good buy. I love this printer!

5 out of 5 stars D5360 does all I need for a song   July 11, 2008

The HP Photosmart D5360 does everything I need: Double sided, black or full color, 4x6 or 5x7 photos, and direct onto inkjet-printable CD's. I don't use the built-in digicam memory card features, but they don't interfere. Since HP consumables are pricey, I've used Costco's (thinner) 4x6 photo paper with no problems so far. For the money, I'm astonished with this unit so I don't mind giving HP a few extra bucks for the ink. The included software has more bells & whistles than I would prefer, but it gets the job done. All in all, I'm pleased.
