Great all-in-one. April 24, 2008 This is a great printer/fax/scanner/copier for the home or home office. The print quality is great, and everything was very simple to set up. The paper tray is relatively small, holding only 100 pages at a time. But you'd need to print a lot of pages for that to be a major concern. Outstanding all-in-one for the price!
A happy customer April 22, 2008 Everything about this transaction was a pleasure. The printer is all that I hoped for and more. It was shipped immediately and arrived in perfect condition.
Brother MFC-465CN April 22, 2008 Our purchase on 04/08/2008 was well worth it. It has a real fax machine unlike so many of them that can't run without the computer or won't send multiple pages. This is the first color copier we ever had before that makes high quality copies fast without the computer running. We can flat bed scan to a file, image, email, or some other software. It prints in very fine detail and will print photos too. It will even print on envelopes if you are clever with the paper tray. We use the Network printer drivers, but the USB cable worked if it is less than six feet. I was a little worried about the warning that too long a USB cable is forbidden. What is against the Brother MFC-465CN is that it has no Windows 98 or ME drivers at all. We can't even get just the printer function of the MFC-465CN to work on the Network. Windows XP does the printing for us now. It should work with Vista, Mac, or Linux. What caused me to think it worked with Windows 98SE was lack of information was on the box about the operating systems? Worse was the Brother web site said their MFC-4650 did come with Windows 98SE and ME drivers. The Brother MFC-4650 printer is a very different printer with very different ink cartridges. We will be keeping this Multi Function Center anyway and our old color printer too.
does what you need March 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
i've had an mfc-465cn for about 6 months. it's network attached to 5 different computers (1 windows server and 4 xp professional) with no hassles. i've used printing, scanning, fax send and receive, and a few copied. resolution is good on both printing and scans. i've only used the feeder a couple times but it worked ok. the software is (imho) excellent! i haven't worked with network-attached scanning that was as simple to set up and use.
my only down-side comment is about ink monitoring. with most inkjets i've used, when they start reporting low-ink you can give the cartridges a gentle shake and they're good for a while longer. try the same thing with the brother and it shows the ink to be empty and won't print. basically once you have the cartridge in you'd better leave it alone - pulling it out messes with their ink-level sensing.
this is a great multifunction unit for the money!
ALMOST PERFECT, WELL WORTH PRICE March 10, 2008 I am using both an iMac and MacBook with OS X Leopard, sharing the printer via ethernet connected to a Time Capsule. The only three flaws I have found so far are minor:
1) The printer cannot scan via USB/Bonjour when connected to Time Capsule, but works great via ethernet 2) The buttons on the printer cannot operate a "Scan To" function, so you have to do it all from the computer 3) The printer is a bit noisy, but it is not bad
Other than those three minor inconsistencies, this printer is fantastic. I had been using an HP OfficeJet 5610, and it sucked. That printer scanned and printed poorly. It was not compatible with OS X and the software was awful. The software for this printer is great. It is tucked away nicely on the menu bar, and the options are intuitive. The setup was very easy, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a scan/print solution for not only OS X, but also as a network printer/scanner. You cannot beat the price, and if you go to Best Buy, it will probably be even cheaper. I paid $99 there last week.
