Canon scanner super for slides May 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I converted hundreds of old slides....digital pictures were very good and worked well on my Power Point presentations.
Great Scanner But Flimsy Removable Parts May 13, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am getting great results from this scanner BUT the hook on the white platen that fits on the lid just snapped off on the first day with no out-of-the-norm action on my part. The negative holder is super-flimsy as well so I am giving it extra care. (Wish me luck - I'm about to call Canon.)
The scans of 45-year-old negatives is really great - no complaints there.
Great for scanning old photos! May 5, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Canon CanoScan 8800F Color Film/Negative/Photo Scanner (2168B002)
I bought this scanner to get my old photos into the digital age - so annoying to have all your childhood photos in albums and worry that if they get destroyed they're gone forever!
I scanned about 300 photos. It is a very fast scanner and the multi-image detect is awesome. It automatically separates out the photos so that you don't have to do it afterward in photoshop or whatever. I love that function. The highest res you can select is 600dpi for the image scans, but it turns out beautifully. I did also try negatives, but if you have the actual picture then I think for most cases the two scans looked about the same and the negatives took FOREVER to scan. (Although I've never ever scanned negatives before and from what I've read this scanner is actually fast - sad huh?) But the negative scans looked great too.
I would highly recommend this scanner. I did my homework before I bought it and am extremely happy that I did.
Scanner is worth the money May 2, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This scanner has been a good buy for me since my Epson all-in-one printer decided to stop scanning one evening. The new LED lights take scanning efficiency to a new level. The scanner is ready to go to work in approx. 30 sec. It is much faster at scanning than any other scanner I have owned (HP, Epson). I wish I had this when I was scanning in some of my relatives photos from the late 1800's. I would had them completed in half the time.
This scanner is fairly heavy for its size, which, prevents it from moving during the scanning process. The lid has a closing mechanism that prevents it from slamming shut if your fingers slip but still manages to keep the scanning process efficient.
The Arc Soft software is much better than the version I had with my Epson RX500. It is efficient and doesn't seem to create alot of extra headaches by opening up another program to edit the scanned image. There are other software programs included that are of no use for me that I have eventually removed from the computer.
I have had this scanner for about two months now without any problems. Set up was quick and easy. The only con is the extra software programs. I wish companies would put on one CD the bare minimum one needs to use the hardware and put the extras on another or [something that bluntly tells you what you actually need to download to run the hardware]. This only due to the fact that I do not like the extra space these programs take up and I am not an expert programmer (only a do it yourselfer) at computers.
Canon Scanner....not sure about this product May 2, 2008 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I received this scanner from Amazon in just a few days after my order was placed. The price was decent and it was shipped free. I purchased this scanner so I could convert slides into a file on my computer. The scanner would NOT work on my laptop computer. I kept receiving an error message. There was nothing in the troubleshooting section that addressed this error message. I was able to get the scanner to work on the desktop computer. I've scanned a few pictures and it works well but seems a bit slow. I haven't tried the slides yet. If I have a problem, I'll report back.
