review August 24, 2008 It's just what I expected & is working well.
By the way, the safe-touch feature is for skin only; cloth/paper don't stop the shredder.
Quiet, Powerful, Super-Duper Machine! August 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3UMW75Y5TO7ZO My husband & I are such harsh critics when it comes to our over-$100-purchases but this was the best money we spent on home office products, ever! It takes whole un-opened junk letters and (not recommended but . . .) plastic cards in the main slot, making it tiny illegible strips. We've had it for 6 months and it's starting to need oiling, i.e. not working as fast or hefty like before, but other than that it's got no fault whatsoever. We love it!
Good product - except for Safe Sense failing after 3 weeks... August 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This would be a 5 star purchase except for the fact that the Safe Sense technology stopped working. So it now gets 4 starts. Luckily there is a Safe Sense bypass switch that still allows operation. Troubleshooting did not resolve the issue and I'll have to contact Fellowes for the next steps under warranty.
I like the quiet power of this unit. I am a noise snob and the el cheapo brand we had previously was very noisy. The Fellowes Powershred MS-450Cs is very quiet and faster than my old shredder. For years we have made sure than no mail hits the recycling bin with our name or address on it and we couldn't be any happier with the security the "confetti cut" provides.
I would definitely recommend this product even though I must have got a lemon that malfunctioned after three weeks.
Decent Security Shredder, Overheats Frequently August 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Absolutely fantastic as a security shredder, but it will overheat after shredding approximately 500 to 700 sheets of ordinary typing paper, and faster if you are shredding anything heavier.
When it overheats, the device shuts it down for a mandatory cool down period that lasts roughly one to three minutes. I haven't actually timed it. When it overheats, I just walk away, grab a cup of coffee, and come back after a bit. After the initial overheat and cooldown, the overheat-safety engages in a mere 200 (+/-)sheets of use. Again that's an approximate number, to give you an idea. From then on, it is a cycle of shredding, then cooldown period, followed by more shredding. If you are like me, and shred lots of documents, it becomes a stop-and-go marathon of 3-5 minute cool down periods interrupted by 10 minutes of shredding.
Otherwise, its a very decent, powerful unit, and I do recommend it for light office and home use, when documentary security is paramount. This thing vaporizes your paper documents, into unreadable bits.
It's also excellent for CD's, but as with documents, heavier use (such as that demanded by shredding CD's and DVD's) will cause the overheat safety function to engage, and when it does your confetti party is over until the thing cools down again. Expect a cool unit to shred 30 to 50 CD's before overheat. A unit already warm might only shred 20 CD's before the cool down safety engages.
This Is The One! July 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What a great paper shredder! If you want personal security at a price you can afford, this is the one. Multiple sheets are gobbled and the resulting particles are so fine you will never have to be concerned. I have not used it long enough to speak to reliability, but the cutting mechanism is well made. One note of caution: be careful with the latch that secures the waste bin. It can be bent if you try to force it.
