I'm impressed May 3, 2008 I have boxes and boxes of old slides that I either have to hold up to the light or drag out the slide projector to view them. My neighbor had this old scanner that viewed slides one at a time and it didn't even work correctly. I recently purchased the CanoScan and I love it. It does fine work and I can either make my own prints or put them on a disc or just keep them on the computer. It takes 4 slides at a time and it takes a little time for them to preview and scan, usually about 3 minutes per slide. I was a little disappointed on the flimsiness of the slide holder. It is made of a cheap plastic that seems as if it will break if you don't handle it carefully but all in all so far I am happy. The slides would surely have gone to waste if not for this scanner.
Great so far! May 2, 2008 This scanner does exactly what it's supposed to do. I haven't used it for scanning negatives yet, but for scanning pics, it's great! Easy to set up and install software, and easy to use.
Great piece of equipment May 2, 2008 I was leery about buying this product at such a low price. Very easy to install, even with Windows Vista. I scanned two slides quickly and they turned out fantastic. I have scanned over 900 slides in the past two months since I bought it and the color and clarity is amazing. The only thing with scanning the old negatives is they dont't fit in the plastic trough. I was able to lay them on the glass and scan this way, but you don't get the entire photo that way. Even so, I am very pleased with the Canon CanoScan 4400 and would recommend it to anyone wanting to convert those old slides to digital.
Great quality for film May 1, 2008 I had an Epson Perfect scanner that just konked out on me - the reviews on this one seemed good and the price was wonderful. I was really impressed with the scan of the film - the ease, the noise (not too loud), and the speed. Comparing it to the Epson, the Epson was very slow and loading the negative was combersome (it was auto load). The auto load was what just went on it and there's no way to manually load the negative. That was frustrating! This Canon is all manual, but it's easy (just pop out a couple of parts, then pop it back in). I also like the fact that it separates the images rather than showing one scan of the full negative.
I also liked the fact that there are buttons on the scanner itself that you can do a quick scan onto the computer. The programs are very easy and you have a choice to immediately save it as a pdf or open in another program, such as PhotoSHop.
It's really a nice scanner! I'm quite happy with it!
Excellent scanner April 29, 2008 I had an Epson scanner that was very noisy and the software was confusing. This Canon is quiet, easy to use, and delivers excellent results.
