Works Great! August 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After a couple years I finally replaced the Magenta and Yellow cartridges. I replaced the cyan and black a couple months ago. I have never had a problem with this printer and for my purposes the color/text is great. I have used it for a variety of items (cards, envelopes and paper) and it has always performed well. Looking at the other reviews I wonder if there is an overall quality issue with Samsung (I guess I got lucky if there is) or a user problem issue. I went from a laser brother black printer (which gave out on me after a year) and jumping up to the Samsung laser color 300 printer has been great. I have an Epson 2400 for fine prints and a Epson 200 to print disc covers but I use the Samsung mostly for daily printing needs---web pages, pdf files, excel etc...and it is a great little printer---especially for the price...it is the easiest printer to replace cartridges for and while it will cost $100 to replace them all it is well worth it since they last almost two years with normal use (70-100 sheets a week)
Good printer for the price - but there are issues July 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this printer at my local office supply store deeply discounted to $120 (they were making room for the new model). For what I paid for it, it's a nice little printer. It's small and quiet and very simple to use.
Setup was easy, with everyone going together intuitively. The toner cartridges feature an innovative design that makes them very easy to install. The software installed on my computer quickly and I was up and running in a few minutes.
There is only one button on the unit, a "stop" button that, counterintuitively, you have to press in order to "start" printing in manual feed mode. (This is a tiny quibble.) Of more concern are the quality issues. Text breaks up at small point sizes, and, at least when printing on business card stock, the toner flakes off the page too easily. Also there is a tendency for the toner to smear.
Of greater concern, large areas of saturated color (like photographs) tend to have at least one toner bubble where the toner has not bonded properly with the paper; when the bubble flakes off, it leaves a white spot on the photograph. If your main purpose is to print photos, don't buy this printer.
All in all though, the printer is fine for my purposes, especially for the price I paid. Colors are vivid, printing is quick, and overall the output is pleasing within its limitations. I'd say, if you can find a bargain, go ahead and buy it, and it will serve you well, but if you have to pay full price there are other printers in this price range that would probably be a step up.
My CLP 300 is a gem July 7, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This little CLP-300 is a gem. Every benefit & feature that was advertised by Samsung was true. So far I've only printed out less than 200 pages, but they've varied from Word docs to xls spreadsheets to pdf docs to jpg images to tif images and to Web pages - all with no problems.
I've looked at the other reviews posted by others. And the major complaint about this printer was its tendency to create disruptive paper jams very often. But when I compared the Samsung to Brother, Xerox, Panasonic, etc., I still chose the Samsung.
Luckily, I had enough foresight to think of a way that could potentially solve the jamming problems even before I turned on the switch for the first time. Fortunately, my solution worked and I haven't had any paper jams except under one set of very specific circumstances.
But, I've also managed to eliminate those circumstances as well.
So, all in all, with all other things being equal, I'm very satisfied with the CLP.
I REALLY wanted to like it, BUT... July 2, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have to agree with other reviews that have had the CONSTANT paper jams. I have the 300n which is network ready, so I'll just focus on the core functions of this model since they're identical otherwise (and BTW, there are NO problems with the 300n's network connectivity. Quite impressive actually).
This printer delivers very impressive color quality even on the draft setting, and it's fairly quiet as documentation suggests. The printing speed is par for the course for a laser. I like the quality a LOT, but as with other reviews, it's problem is that it jams almost constantly. A printer is no good if it can't print.
Here's what I've discovered: After going through several different brands and types, it only seems to like paper that has a rougher surface. The smooth surfaces will jam immediately, and you'll be hard pressed to force it to print with any of it. So what DID work? Well, interestingly, I had a ream of OLD paper around, so I decided to try it, and it went without a hitch. The paper's specifications are Xerox brand, 4200 DP, 20lb, substance: 20, grain "long". The surface of this paper was "rougher" than all the others I tried which were very smooth by comparison, but this is the only paper that DOES work without a problem. And, since I'm looking at 1/2 a ream left, I have to try to find some just like this and hope it doesn't cost a bloody fortune.
It's a darn shame this printer is just WAY too picky about its paper. I was going between this brand and another which was only a little more expensive, and now I'm kicking myself. I've got a lot of printing to do, and I just can't babysit this thing!
I can only give it 2 stars because I can't run it through its courses long enough for anything more in depth. Great quality, but a critical design flaw.
Samsung, at the very least, WORK ON THE PAPER GRIPS!!!
Poor black imaging, paper jams, try Dell 1320c June 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this printer because I was tired of replacing injet cartridges and waiting for injet printouts. The small size of the printer for a color laser was very attractive. The printer, however, is fatally flawed. The black image quality is quite poor and at times unreadable, but we lived with it for most schoolwork. (The color was OK). The printer is very finnicky about the paper. Some types will always jam. Other types will jam frequently. So after about a year, I have given up on this printer. After some research, I purchased a Dell 1320c. After about a week, I am quite happy with this printer. It is larger, but the black and color print is better and so far no paper jams!. It also costs a bit less as well.
