Amazon.com The simple truth is that some of us were built were math, and some of us weren't. If calculating how many gallons of paint you'll need makes you want to hire the job out, this little calculator will change your mind. All you have to do is measure and tell it what you want to know. It's programmed to figure out quantity needed for all kinds of materials: bricks and blocks, wallboard, gravel, lumber, paint, roof shingles, studs, tile and wallpaper. You tell it specifically what grout width you want, or how far apart your fence posts will be, and it work everything out. It even works in reverse, figuring out mind-sputtering things like, how much wall will 7 gallons of this paint cover? It handles fractions to the 1/64th inch without faltering, and It's slim, light, and less than 3-by-5-inches, so it fits neatly in your pocket. It's powered by long-life lithium batteries, and the auto-shutoff feature gives you even more battery life. And of course, it works like a regular calculator, too, so you can add up how much you saved by not hiring out that paint job.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Beware! Bait and Switch! August 12, 2008 Harvey (Portland, OR) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Do not buy this from Polsteins Home & Beyond (They are the default)! They don't even carry them, but instead try and slip you the far inferior model 8510 Home Project Calc. They then promise to e-mail you a return label, and then don't do anything at all. I have just reported this company to the FTC for fraud. If you have been scammed by Polsteins Home & Beyond, either by the old Bait and Switch, or another unethical and illegal business practice, report them to the FTC at: www.ftc.gov. Be aware of your rights, the FTC says that if they send you something other than what you ordered YOU DON"T HAVE TO RETURN IT! They must still refund your money.
Works great when it works, doesn't last, no warranty June 21, 2008 R. Devinney (Silver City, NM) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I received it as a gift and it was great for laying out the footings for my house. A few months later when I went to use it again, there was a big black blotch on the display making it unusable. I emailed Calculated Industries and they told me the only way that could happen was if I abused it or it froze. Neither was the case. They didn't even offer the courtesy of letting me send it in so they could look at it. It still looks brand new except for the blotch on the display. By comparison I have an HP that has literally traveled around the world with me for 14 years and still works great. I wish HP made project calculators! I would not buy anything made by Calculated Industries. Their products don't last and the warranty is absolutely worthless.
Quick - What's 3/32 + 1/16 + 7/64 divided by 2? May 9, 2008 Michael Sandman (Brookline, MA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This little calculator can give you the fractional or decimal answer without making you recover your 5th grade arthmetic skills. It handles a wide range of woodworking and carpentry calculations. The same company makes a wide range of calculators, including more robust ones for use at job sites. This one is probably best used in a workshop or inside. It's in a light weight bright yellow plastic case that doesn't feel like it would handle a lot of abuse. But it's easy to use, the instruction manual is clear and the inside cover even has printed instructions for the most common uses. Four stars rather than 5 because of the cheesey case, but it's still a great way to reduce errors and save pencil lead.
Great Item! Every carpenter (ESPECIALLY PART TIME) should own one! February 16, 2008 A. J. Kleingartner (North Dakota) I bought this as a gift for my husband who enjoys doing projects building things for the house. Occasionally, he has to run to the store because he didn't add things correctly. This helps and will help determine from inches to feet without the additional math.
ProjectCalc Plus Calculater December 1, 2007 Susan M. Ferrell (Los Angeles, CA) I've bought many of these - for myself and for work. I work in graphic arts. Do a lot of computations which require mixing feet, inches, meters, fractions, etc. Love it!
