5 out of 5 stars GPS Review   January 9, 2007
Joan Glonek (Hamilton Square, NJ)
This was purchased for my son as a present and he had to use it the same day! He LOVES it and brags about it. He even brought it into my car when we went somewhere to show me how it works.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent GPS!   January 9, 2007

I have tried several GPS units and this is by far the best. I was buying a GPS for my mom about a year ago and tried a Magellan but she ended up returning it. This GPS was the winner as it was easy to use and it was able to get a signal. The Magellan would sometimes takes up to 20 minutes to find a satellite and you had to aim it very carefully through the dashboard.

Nuvi is a lot less fussy and I would highly recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars A well designed and very useful addition to the car   January 9, 2007
James C. Mcgrath (Philadelphia, PA United States)
The Garmin Nuvi 350 is one of the best electronic consumer products I have purchased in several years. It marries design and execution very well.

The product is small and light, with little girth beyond that needed for the capable LCD readout.

The user interface is excellent. It is simple enough to present little learning curve and can generally facilitate safe operation while driving.

The navigation experience itself is excellent, with ample verbal warnings and on screen depections to match.

A very nice feature is the ability to search for attractions (or basically any store, restaurant, etc) and navigate there. This feature works great. It worked perfectly in Canada and everywhere I tried it in the US.

The small size allows you to stick it in your pocket and walk around with it if you wanted.

In-car GPS is a tremendous innovation. I've seen several implementations of it, but the Nuvi matches them, and allows you to take it anywhere. I highly recommend it.

Possible defficiencies:
* Limited language support--in its defense, the Nuvi does feature many articulate languages built in. For me, it would have been nice, but hardly indispensable, to have Russian included. Not a big deal, though. They do provide multiple voices for english, and it is very easy to understand and hear at less than full volume.

* Potential obsolesence in maps--the built in maps will obviously become obsolete eventually. The Nuvi does provide a mechanism to navigate on user specified maps, but these supplement (I believe) rather than replace the pre-loaded maps. It would seem to be useful to be able to completely replace the existing maps as necessary with upgrades. (This may be available, but I don't think so.)

5 out of 5 stars so simple & accurate   January 9, 2007
Twox48
I've never owned a GPS but heard that they were great for those who are not very good with directions. I bought the Nuvi 350 for my wife who is totally "gadget challenged" and needs very simple operating proceedures & the Nuvi is just that. She picked right up on it & absolutely loves it. The simple menu driven touch screen is self explanitory. I took it on a 2+ hr trip & it put me to the endpoint exactly to the minute it calculated that I'd get there. Amazingly accurate. Simple mounting with interchangable mounts makes it very versitile & easy to switch vehicles. The rechargable battery makes the short trip in a different vehicle even easier. No need to drag a power cord along. Use the battery backup!
We have yet to use the MP3 or Audio book features but if those are as simple as the maps & directions then it will be a breeze. The size of this unit is also a huge benefit. It's as small as a calculator and in its protective sleeve will fit in a shirt pocket or easily in a purse. No need to hide it in your car & hope no one steals it. I can't say that I've got a lot of experience with other GPS units but I'd DEFINATELY reccommend the Garmin Nuvi 350.
