Disappointing January 2, 2008 I was disappointed with this GPS system. I have a Garmin for myself and bought this one as a gift. Definitely not worth the money I paid for it. I'll return it and purchase a Garmin. Normally I don't go by brands, but in this, I would stick with the big names.
Value for money but Not Great December 27, 2007 This product is cheap. It however has it's drawbacks. Just did a 1200 mile trip with this GPS. This is what I found.
Pros. 1. Generally works OK on major highways. 2. Fast Route Recalculation. 3. You can listen to MP3s while driving and see the map at the same time.
Cons. 1. Weird route calculation algorithm. Asks you to take route that makes no sense. I would always check the route first in Google maps and start driving and then the unit will eventually recalculate the correct route. I used Magellan 1200 simultaneously with this one and Magellan was very user friendly and showed right directions. 2.The documentation is poor and there is no quick start guide included. 3.Maps are old and new maps are not available yet. 4.Extremely limited number of POIs.

I walked into a Staples store when they advertised the TomTom One for $199 and of course "the customer who left 10 min before walked out with the last one" (yeah sure, and about that bridge; I'll bet it's for sale too) but the clerk said I can order that on our web system for you. Okay fine, I want it and I'm in no rush. Then the GPS-4v106 shows up. I have a bit of experience with the NexTar X3-02 (nice at $199) I bought it the same day that Staples didn't have the TomTom (under the I don't know what this is but I can take it back guarantee...) There is nothing really wrong with the X3-02 (it works great and looks and feels good too) except it has no facility to be updated and the small POI list is very old. But as the basis for comparison for this 4V106 "the X3-02 rocks" The 4V106 does not work without the SD chip inserted, it took several minutes to figure out where we were initially and though it comes with lots of stuff (AC & DC chargers, touch pens, various mounts, etc) it simply looks and feels cheap.
Definitely worth the buck July 30, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This GPS unit is good. takes about 1-2 minutes on a to get the initial fix and then it is very quick. The software could have been better. If street names could be pronounced with a text-to-speech (TTS) engine it could have been better. some reviewers commented badly on the recalculation of the map. I just did a 400 mile trip and so far had no problems with recalculation of directions if i miss any exit. It is a little bulky for your dash, but you get 4" screen with mp3, mp4 capability. that no other (under 200$) GPS unit can beat. it did crash twice but restarting the unit would generally fix it. also with some 3rd party software, you can run Windows CE, games and other embedded software which is cool .also some forums talk about upgrading the maps and GPS software to better ones. i did not try it yet because i am happy with the basic stuff. On the whole, this unit is what i needed. dont expect wonders for under 200$. i also own an mp4/mp3/camera/camcorder/fm player from the same manufacturer. they make awesome product with lots of bundled features and an affordable price tag. the only problem is that there is very little after sales support. though all these devices can be upgraded, there is hardly any upgrade release from the company. so you have to rely on 3rd party forums. Hope you found this review helpful. enjoy!
Worst GPS I ever tried July 2, 2007 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I should have known that something was wrong when I opened the package and found inside somebody else's packing slip and yellow note page. Apparently, someone returned it and they sent it to me without even checking the contents of the box. As for the GPS - it seems to know where you are. However, it does not know how to get to your destination. I used it side by side with a Garmin 660. The Garmin took me to the address while the Invion tried to direct me to a location down the road half a mile. That happened every time at different locations. In addition, the processor seems underpowered and every operation took forever. I have used multiple GPS systems before and this one is the worst.
