Perfect protection for your precious iPhone March 12, 2010 N. Herbert (Hong Kong) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you have an iPhone - and you have a motorcycle - you Will at some time want to put the two together. Particularly to use the iPod music, GoogleMap or GPS applications that a 3Gs has available. The problem is that - up until now - bikes, bad weather and elctronics are incompatible.
Then the Dahon BioLogic Bike Mount for iPhone came along and has changed all that. Though originally intended for pedal cycles, it works very well on my Harley and keeps the water out whilst letting you use most of the phone functions. Obviously, wireless playback of iPod music & GPS directions via Bluetooth are better, with telephonic communication inside your helmet dependant on other aftermarket systems, though you can physically plug in a headphone with mic if you like.
The only minor niggle is that the Dahon casing will only accept a standard (Apple), iPhone charger plug - the white, compact one that comes with your iPhone - so I've had to design and assemble my own power supply system to keep the phone charged on the move. Information on that can be obtained from me at: enjaymarine@gmail.com
Finally, Dahon in Hong Kong are working on an upgrade to the only other weak spot in this otherwise superb system, which is the handlebar strap. When this has been 'beefed-up' a little more - for bigger bikes - you'll have the ideal iPhone weatherproof system - for anything on two wheels.
Hard to use iPhone and it rotates! March 6, 2010 Sunshine (Bay Area, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wish I'd read the previous reviewer that gave it 2 stars before buying this.
First the pros:
-The case seems pretty good, like it would definitely work under muddy or rainy conditions. No other bike mount even tried to protect the iPhone.
-The mount is easy to install.
-If you press hard enough, the buttons are useable while the iPhone is inside the case. Sometimes there is some space between the plastic cover and the screen, so you have to push hard enough to overcome it.
-It is low profile and simple. I liked how it looked on the bike. I ride a mountain bike and was looking for something that didn't stick out a mile from the handlebars.
Now, the cons:
-The mounting system, while simple, also doesn't tighten down enough on the handlebar or stem. It works like a screw clamp, except all the components are cheap plastic so beyond a certain point the closing mechanism just spins without getting that extra tightness to really cinch it down. As a result, just pressing the Return button through the case, or simply swiping the screen, makes the iPhone rotate on the handlebars. I took it out on a road ride, and the mount rotated most annoyingly going over any small bumps in the road, so I had to keep taking a hand off the handlebars to push the case back up in order to see the screen. I can only imagine what a ride on trails would be like. Somebody said using a rubber shim should help. I haven't tried this and after spending $50, I don't think I should have to modify the product to make it work. I haven't tried mounting on the stem to see if it works better, so I'll try that next. Or maybe I'll just return it.
-The cost is too much for what you get. Granted, the case seems bomber and like it works the way it's described, but come on. $50?? I went for it thinking it would be worth it being the only product that protects your iPhone, but it doesn't even stay put. For something that barely functions, $50 is wa-ay too much.
This case might work for you if you're a road rider and have handlebars with thick grip tape to which the mount might stick better. Or to be fair, perhaps it's meant to work better mounted to the stem. My bike already has a cyclocomputer on the stem, so I was hoping for something that mounted to the handlebars. I am definitely disappointed.
Don't waste your money....wait for something better to come out... March 4, 2010 M. Solares (Los Angeles, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
So I shopped around for a nice iPhone mount for quite a while before I settled on the Biologic Mount from Dahon and was thoroughly disappointed. First off, I bought it from Safety Cycle, they were a great company, not their fault for product flaws. Anyway, I received the package and was excited to install it. I followed the instructions on the box when installing it. CONS: 1) The mount slides down every time you go over a bump in the road, you have to readjust it just to have it slide down again(very, very, annoying. Another reviewer said to put some rubber around the handlebars to keep it more in place, might have to try it. 2) When the case is in the locked position, the screen is sometimes non-responsive, with your "naked" iPhone in there. It won't react to your slides and swipes. You have to press/touch hard sometimes. Sucks! Isn't that the whole point of this product??!?!? To be able to use it while being protected??!! 3) If you want to hear your music, FORGET IT, it is so low that just the noise of you riding your bike down a quiet street will muffle the sound. The case covers the sound almost entirely! Granted, it will protect it from rain, which has yet to be tested. And on the product box, it even says "not to be used in heavy rain." I can't think of any PROS for this "Biologic iPhone case." These are just my two cents, but if you want to waste $50+ on it anyways, go ahead, just don't say I didn't warn you here first. Would like a refund from Dahon, not Safety Cycle, Safety Cycle Co. is awesome! Thanks.
Biologic Iphone mount/case, works well! February 19, 2010 S. Robertson 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This was the best option I could find for mounting my Iphone to my motorcycle handlebars. I wanted something that would offer some water resistance and complete coverage for the phone, while allowing me to see and access the screen for navigation apps, ect. I would rate it five stars, if not for the cons listed below.
Pros:
-case is well designed and is easy to mount, provides decent protection
-holds steady at 70+mph on a naked motorcycle
-looks good and provides full 360 degrees of orientation
-can be adjusted easily while on the go
Cons:
-expensive for a plastic and rubber mount/case
-home button is held on with adhesive and could peel off
Overall, I am happy with this purchase. Amazon seller, safetycycle provided good service and fast, free shipping via USPS. USPS did crush the packaging, but the product inside was undamaged.
Bilogic Bike Mount-IPhone January 31, 2010 Robert D. Strock Jr. (Fort Walton Beach, FL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great product and I would rate it a 5 if it had a better attachment system.
The good: IPhone is well protected and easy to use while in the case. I use two different GPS programs while riding -- one is in portrait mode and the other in landscape mode. The Biologic rotates easily to adapt to whichever I choose to use on a given ride. It is easy to put the IPhone into the case and to remove it.
The bad: the system to attach the unit requires the use of an allen wrench (included) but you cannot tighten it down as tight as I would like; therefore, when you hit a bump, the unit has a tendency to rotate down -- it is easy to rotate it back up though. I added a thin piece of rubber between the strap and the handlebars and this helped quite a bit.
The unit is made by Dahon and more information can be found on their web site. [...]. Also, a tour of the unit can be found on Youtube.
If you carry an IPhone on your bike, I highly recommend this product -- the benefits greatly outweigh the negatives. $50 plus dollars may seem a lot but when you are protecting a phone valued at several hundred dollars, it is well worth the price.
