Great GPS but boot time is too long. October 13, 2008 J. Goedert (Jax, FL) This is my 3rd gps and this gps has many great feature that I enjoy over my old gps systems. But this gps runs off windows mobile 6.0CE and it takes forever to start. You have to hold the power button for more than 10 seconds to get it to show start up... but once the system is up and running it works like a charm. I live in a big city and the auto free traffic updates are a blessing. I don't know how many times it has saved me from running into construction and traffic delays. It route fast and is very accurate on distance and speed. If I could just take the things that I like from all 3 gps systmes and add them to this one it would be perfect. Untill then I will enjoy this gps to it's fullest.
Very good but... then again but... October 12, 2008 legonz (Austin, TX) I like everything about this GPS. Ease of use, nice car mount, great features... but it takes almost like forever to boot it up and search for satellite signal. This also happens when you drive into a building and lose satellite connectivity (such as when you enter a parking building). BUT WAIT. There's an undocumented solution (well, i don't know if it's undocumented because I never bothered to read the PDF manual). Instead of turning off your Navigon, you simply give the power button one quick tap. This shuts down the display and puts it in STANDBY mode (i think it gives the unit enough power so it does not have to boot up like it does when you first turn it ON). [Doesn't help big if you're like me an I park in a building when I come home everyday but at least it's still faster]. So I'd rate this unit high- great value for the price. :)
Navigon 3.5 in. Portable GPS October 12, 2008 Lee Kurasowicz (Marco Island, FL) This GPS has great 3-d visuals. The visuals are especially noteworthy when you approach exit ramps or need to be in a specific lane on a 5+ lane highway. The 3-d function almost looks like a live video picture of what's ahead. Programming for long trips has been improved but, Navigon still needs to do some tweaking in that area. However, it programs as easily as most of the other GPS devices out there. It is more pricey but, the 5100 comes with lifetime real time traffic alerts.
Excellent Navigation System October 9, 2008 Syed A. Jehangir (usa) I am fully satisfied with the product. Very nice I could not have ask any better than this one. I had problem using it the first time(Touch Screen) but after collaboration and setting the basics it works like a champ!
No Wonder They Dropped The Price September 25, 2008 R. Hebron (Reno, NV United States) I thought I was upgrading from the Tom Tom Navigator 6 on my Palm Treo when I bought the Navigon 5100. Boy was I wrong. I entered a test route for the 5100 to take me from my home in Reno, Nevada to Carson City (Only 20 miles south). First, it was amazingly slow in calculating the route . . . more than a minute slower than the Tom Tom. Second, the routing was wrong. When it got to the US 395 (The highway between Reno and Carson City), the GPS routes me to go north for a mile, exit, then loop around before directing me back south on highway 395. I'm returning the 5100 tomorrow.
