very good toy! May 12, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
It's an amazing device, like a real laptop but with the size of a small chocolate-box. Only one disadvantage: limit the time you spend daily with it until you become accustomed to the size of the screen. Rather than that, I'm very satisfied!
EEE PC great tool May 12, 2008 E. A. Edwards (Historic Oregon City) First purchased a 4gb eee pc for my mother (94 yrs old). I was impressed that she could pick it up and resume doing e-mail immediately, even though she had always had a Windows based machine before. Then, I saw the advantage of a small machine like this for travel and bought a 8gb model for myself. Of course, I knew it's limits due to size, but the size and weight were advantageous for travel, overseas especially. I loaded it with Windows XP Pro for compatability with my office & home computers and software, but if I was beginning without being tied to Windows software I would have left the original operating system on the eee as I did for my mother. I will probably replace my hand-held PDA (Mobile Windows based)with this eee pc because it has so much more. The wireless works flawlessly with both OS platforms. For more extended use I did pick up a folding (tabletkiosk) keyboard, but I can accept the size of the on-board keypad for short usage. It is so expandable for storage... 4 gb secure digital card, 8gb thumbdrive. If putting on lots of software I would recommend the 8gb design with documents and books stored on removable drives. Sure, it is not the same as my $2K work laptop, but for travel it fits the bill perfectly, and for elderly parents is much easier to pick up and use than a regular PC. No complaints on our part.
not good enough May 11, 2008 Kapitan Kloss (Boise, Idaho) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
positive: the operating system is wonderful, and I never had Linux-based computer before. The size is what I wanted: portable, small. However I returned the computer to the store 1 day after I got it. The reason was: 1) the battery drained almost immediately despite charging 2) the screen is so small ( 7") that no web page could fully displayed. I could deal with small screen if this computer was fully portable, but it had to be attached to electric outlet all the time. Next time, they should at least make a bigger screen, and I measured: 1-2 inches bigger screen would fit just fine.
Just a wee bit wee.... May 8, 2008 Muhair (Big Island) Love the extreme portability and nifty Linux operating system. Boots in a flash and zips from site to site like a jackrabbit. But typing accurately and quickly on the tiny keyboard is challenging, and the battery charge wanes in less than two hours. For those weaned on texting, the keyboard will probably not pose too great a problem. A 9"-10" format, which seems not to exist, would be ideal.
Asus eee 8g May 2, 2008 Jennifer Ho (California) Love the product. Nice and compact to bring on trips. More than enough memory. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a compact computer. The price is also a plus for what it is.
