5 out of 5 stars Macbook 2.4ghz 2GB Ram 160GB HD   July 28, 2008

This has to be one of the best purchases that I've made in a very long time. I am very impressed by the Mac and its new operating system.

I was very hesitant to move over to Mac because I am a gamer, but I was surprised to find out that most of the games that I am into are also available on Mac. I was also very happy with the deal I got. Right now, Apple offers a deal for students where you are eligible for a $100 off your Mac (any model) and they give you a free Ipod Touch ($299 value). I don't know what I love more, the Macbook or Ipod Touch!

Here are the Pros:

No error messages or programs closing - Mac works perfectly, I've had it for a couple of months now and have had no problems with error messages or programs closing or freezing for no apparent reason. The OSX blows the pants off of Vista and XP.

Fast! - Whether you are starting up, shutting down, or doing whatever, this Mac and OSX is much faster than even my fastest gaming computers. (I came from a Dell M1730) Plus, Safari is about 3 times as fast as MSIE and Firefox.

Everything is compatible - I have yet to find a piece of hardware that doesn't automatically work when plugged in. Naturally ITunes and my Ipods work perfectly, my printers, mice, everything works seemlessly. Mac Mail is amazing...

Wifi - The wireless is simply amazing. Everywhere I go, it picks up internet automatically. My Dell took forever to try to connect.

Here are the CONS -

New software - Although there are free alternatives like Open Office, you have to buy new software like Microsoft Office. Although I will say that Mac OSX comes with most everything that you need.

Everything great. Battery life is excellent, 4-5 hours with screen brightness almost all the way up. Software and features are great.

1 out of 5 stars MacBook Woes   July 26, 2008

I purchased my MacBook almost three months ago based on the reviews. My mistake. I admit that I did expect to find the change from Windows to Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5.4) a challenge. What I did NOT expect was that the support personnel at Apple would be so poorly trained that their help was almost useless. The standard solution after 2-3 hours on the phone was to reinstall the operating system. Big mistake. I downloaded Adobe, and it would not work properly on this laptop. I could no longer open simple pdf files. So, I called Apple support. Two hours later I was told to archive and reinstall the operating system. After doing that I still couldn't view pdf files, but finally used spotlight to find that there was still a small adobe file that needed to be deleted. That whole problem should have been a 5 minute phone call. Unfortunately now the printer would not work. Two more hours on the phone, and the "support tech" told me to remove the printer and then add it back. Bingo, the printer now worked. But again, more wasted hours. The next day I tried to access the Itunes store. Nope, couldn't do that either anymore. Three more hours on the phone, and I was told that it isn't possible to access the Itunes store from a managed account. Interesting that I have been doing just that for the past three months. Bottom line, don't expect decent support from Apple. If you buy a Macbook, you are really on your own. If you are familiar with Apple computers or have superior technical skills, you should do OK. But if you are coming over from Windows, you will only find frustration and misery. I will attempt to force Apple to take this thing back, and give me a refund. If that fails, I will try to find someone who still thinks that Apple is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and sell this MacBook to them!!!

5 out of 5 stars Back to Mac...this time for good!   July 17, 2008

I had owned Macs in the past, but always thought they were too slow compared to PCs. Apple has long been at the cutting edge of industrial design, but I found the cost of their computers to be too high relative to the performance. I can happily say that I no longer feel that way. After spending time in my neighborhood Apple Store, I finally felt comfortable enough to buy another Mac and I am beyond pleased!

First of all, the latest version of OS X is a fantastic operating system. Everything just works. I have had no crashes or other inconveniences in the month I have owned this laptop. I turned it on and it found my network instantly. All three printers were recognized and drivers were installed without having to fumble around with CDs or going to the printer manufacturer's websites.

I added an additional 2GB RAM because I wanted to run multiple operating systems. After installing the RAM and VMWare Fusion, Windows XP runs virtually alongside OS X with no noticeable impact in performance for either OS. I haven't had much reason to use Windows lately, but it's nice to have it ready without needing to reboot. (Of course, if you're a gamer, a PC is still probably the best platform for you)

Apple is now king in this household and we are in the process of making the switch permanently to Macs for everything. The initial cash outlay is still higher than a comparable PC, but you get what you pay for. Luckily, Amazon offered a small discount plus rebate on this when I ordered. After saving 7% in sales tax vs. buying locally and free shipping with Amazon Prime, it was downright cheap. All I know is I'm ecstatic and I'm not looking back!

5 out of 5 stars Love my Mac   July 15, 2008

Cannot say enough about this Mac. Recommend to anyone. Have been a PC user for most of my life (started on Apples in school). Mac rules. Have to use PC based computers at work, can't wait to use my Mac when not at work (sometimes at work, it is a laptop and I have a wireless connection-Sprint wireless). PS- Love the Sprint wireless, internet at pretty good speeds, virtually anywhere I go.
