Product Description The Eee PC 900 offers you more options for your mobile computing needs. Incorporating a shockproof design and weighing less than 1kg, you will find it "Easy to learn, work and play" ? making it your best outdoor companion anywhere, anytime.
Amazon.com Product Description The Asus Eee PC 900 provides the power of a full-sized laptop in a compact body with a larger 8.9-inch screen. Even with the larger size of the Eee PC 900 when compared to the original Eee PC, the new model weighs just over 2 pounds--perfect for students toting to school or road warriors packing away to Wi-Fi hotspots. And because it uses flash memory instead of a hard drive (with 16 GB of storage), the Eee PC 900 is optimal for weathering rough handling and sharing space in overstuffed bags.
The Asus Eee PC 900's 8.9-inch screen is easier on the eyes, and the integrated webcam makes video chats a snap. | Other features include a 1.3-megapixel webcam integrated into the bezel above the LCD, a Secure Digital memory card slot, Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g), multiple USB ports, a VGA output for connecting to a monitor, and 1 GB of RAM. It comes preinstalled with the Microsoft Windows XP Home operating system, which offers more experienced users an enhanced and innovative experience that incorporates Windows Live features like Windows Live Messenger for instant messaging and Windows Live Mail for consolidated email accounts on your desktop. Complementing this is Microsoft Works, which equips the user with numerous office applications to work efficiently. For journalists, photographers and other professionals who need to use a computer in the field to create, to communicate and to collaborate with other colleagues, the Eee PC's combination of power, extreme portability and rugged build makes it the ideal computing solution. It's also a great choice for young students, with a built-in Dictionary that's great for homework, and it includes two modes of intuitive graphic user interface design to accommodate both experienced and inexperienced PC users. The Eee PC also handles your digital images, movies, and music as well as Internet radio.
The Eee PC with Windows Home XP operating system provides a familiar interface. | Nicely light at just 35 ounces, the Eee PC 900 has an 8.9-inch wide TFT LCD with a 1024 x 600-pixel resolution (WXGA)--making it more comfortable on eyes than its predecessor. Under the hood is a 900 MHz Intel Mobile CPU with integrated Intel graphics processor, 1 GB of RAM (not expandable), and 16 GB of flash memory solid-state drive (SSD). The SSD provides quiet performance and helps save energy, while its shock-proof solid state design helps to guard against data loss or shock-related damage if the laptop is dropped. In addition to its wireless LAN, it also offers wired Fast Ethernet connectivity and a 56K modem. The Eee PC includes software for Web browsing (Firefox), e-mail, OpenOffice 2.0 for creating and editing word processing documents and spreadsheets, and a suite of other productivity software to help keep you on track. You get three USB 2.0 ports, a VGA output for connecting to external monitors, headphone and microphone jacks, and a Secure Digital (SD) memory card slot. Keyboard lacking August 29, 2008 The screen is very good for the price, and that's the main reason I bought this product. Predictably, the keyboard on a computer this small is virtually worthless. I'm a very good typist and I have to use my two index fingers to type because the keys are so small and so close together. As long as you don't plan to do a lot of typing, this is a good bargain.
Very cool and practical; a traveller's dream August 26, 2008 Perfect travel computer which is what I bought it for. Likes: Comes complete with XP, Works, etc and is ready to go; Easy access to internet anywhere; quiet; super cool; comes with sleeve which is also nice. Great for mobile web surfing, presentations, note taking, etc. Takes a bit longer to boot than I would like and the keyboard takes some getting use to but both are manageable. The power bar is also fairly compact. A great value for what it does. Takes away the stress of toting a heavy computer filled with key stuff on the road.

I bought the Asus EEE PC 900 XP a week ago. I've significantly changed the programs loaded, taking off what I won't use and putting on a couple other programs. I uninstalled MS Works and Star Office and installed only what I'll need of Open Office. I think I'll use it mostly to take notes (usually using just Notepad) and connect to the internet when I travel.
As with our other XP computers, there is no backup utility installed. So had to fuss with putting that on, backing it up. My geek husband also made a recovery file on a thumbdrive.
It has run nonstop since purchase on both wireless and ethernet as well as on power and battery. Battery got to 30% after 2.5 hours. Not too good but I expect to mostly use it on power. It does noticeably slow down on batter, too.
Overall, I am VERY happy with it. I have small hands so I can actually touch type on the keyboard but it is very small. I love the 2.2 pounds for travel. Weighed it myself and it actually comes in at 2.02 pounds or 980 grams.
Be sure to do a bios update. I bought a 16 gig SD HC (high capacity) card. It wouldn't work at first. Then I discovered and installed another bios update that fixed it. So I've doubled the memory. My older desktop can't read the SDHC, though. I either use the home network or an 8 gig thumbdrive to transfer files and programs.
great little computer! July 25, 2008 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
The only reason it did not get 5 stars from me is because of the keyboard and it is a little slower than i expected. other than that, this computer has taken the place of my dell latitude d610 from 2 years ago with 1.86 ghz processor 80 gb harddrive and a gig of ram. all that was no prob to give up for the portability of this machine. and another grype with this machine is the wireless is weaker than the wireless on my dell. i have no idea why but it is doable. i may reinstall the drivers for the wireless but i'll get used to it. i think it is a smaller computer has a lot to do with it as well. the speakers sound decent for the size of the pc. the webcam works well and the mic is decent as well. now, i am visually impaired and use a screen reader. i was a little worried how this machine would handle it but it does well. the thing that drew me to this machine is it's size. i can't believe it. even 8 days after owning it. when i pick up my other laptop i am amazed i used it for 2 years and went through a semester of college with it. this eeepc defanatly has replaced the dell in all reguards. they say it is recommended for a second laptop but it is my number one. the battery life is below par in my book. i am searching out a better battery for it. it is decent for a machine this size but i think they could have done better. now it's time to hunt down a good external dvd burner for this computer. my advice to you is either have a good external harddrive on hand or get an sd card. believe me, if you are like me, you will need it. overall, this computer is a good buy for less than 500 dollars. i enjoy it a lot. it has it's flaws but the good outways them.
