contact us doesn't contact May 15, 2008 There is no way to reach "technical assistance" via the email address offered. I emailed and a month later I'm still waiting for the reply. The keyboard is too small for my fingers - "help" page offers limited help for operating instructions.
Totally cool May 14, 2008 This is a great, great, great little machine. I bought it as a supplement to my bigger laptop, so I could have a cheap machine to carry around on a daily basis. I worried that the keyboard might be a little too small, but it's fine once I adjust to it. I do translations and write pretty extensively on it. Also, it's fairly simple to get the OS out of idiot mode and turn on the KDE linux OS, and it makes a world of difference. KDE has more tools that help you get around with the small screen - for example, two desktops you can tab between, keeping your word processor on one and your web browser on the other. Problems include the speakers, which I've found to be weak and kind of tinny; it's slow coming off sleep mode; the wireless can be a little tempermental, although better in KDE; and if you're getting the Surf, make sure the get one of the newer batteries as well, as the battery that comes with the Surf only lasts about 2.5 hrs.
Love it!!! May 13, 2008 Got this less than a week ago & it is better than I was expecting. Even with the amount of RAM & the processor...I can play AVI files & WMA/WMV files without any issues in Xandros. Have a 2 GB stick of memory on order...as well as an external CD/DVD case. Will be loading Windows onto this for use with my HAM radio software.
If you are looking for a case for this...I found an insulated lunchbox works perfect. Not only are these padded & will protect your Eee...but with outside pockets...you have room to carry everything you want with one case.
Mighty mite May 12, 2008 Tiny but usable, rugged and powerful, this is the ideal computer for someone who wants great portability and full, if basic, features. If, like most computer users, you use your machine mainly for email, web surfing, maybe some word processing and spreadsheet work, you can't beat the ASUS. Everything you need and very little you don't. Definitely get a USB mouse to go with it, though, you'll go crazy trying to work with the little touchpad. A portable DVD player case makes a perfect carrying case, available for $10-15.
Asus Laptop EeePC works slow has bugs May 9, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered the EeePC in Pearl White but I received it flat white I figured it is just the color so I would live with it. I used it for a short time and found it very slow and would lock up from time to time. I decided to return it due to poor product performance and wrong color from original order. I feel the company needs to work out the rest of the bugs before releasing it to the general public.
