Great Laptop for school purpose July 7, 2008 Joseph C. Pellegrini Jr. (Arizona, USA) Great for the purpose of school has not crashed on me once in over a year. is a bit slow, when there is alot of programs and games slow down the system and when you play the game. So far the customer service for this laptop has been great, they helped me resolved my issues with this laptop. battery life is only about 4 hours which is short.
Good Computer; if you have a problem with Gateway take it up with Gateway not this computer. May 20, 2008 M. Johnson (Milwaukee/Chicago Area) This is a good computer; Gateway is a good pretty good company compared to others in my opinion. They don't price discriminate on certain components or inflate the prices just to take money off like Dell does. My only gripes with the computer are the right shift button is too small and of course the battery life is not very good (but that's pretty standard on 17" monitors anyway). If you're going to buy a 17" Notebook you're going to need a 9 or 12 cell battery to feel completely satisfied. I would give it a 3 star but it seems like people reviews are based on having customer service issues with Gateway. Dell is worst; that's from much experience and the language barrier between Dell India (just look at Dell's reviews on pricegrabber.com) but I have yet to have any customer service issues with Gateway or this computer (besides the battery life).
Gateway-not better than a sharp stick in the eye. May 15, 2008 Avraham Sonenthal We bought a Gateway and Windows got hosed for some reason. We called 1-800-GATEWAY for support. Guess what? If you buy a Gateway anywhere but their website you must call a separate toll number. WTF!? Then we needed to restore it but the restore partition was bad. Had to get the recovery disk. They charged me $20 for a $1 CD-R. Then it wouldn't work, and they wanted to charge me to tell me how to use it. Again WTF? These people are horrible. Save yourself a lot of trouble and get a Mac. Anything but Gateway.
Terrible Reliability April 21, 2008 Ron (Forest, VA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought a Gateway Laptop w/Duo Core processor and it only lasted a year and a half before the motherboard died. It was my first and last Gateway Computer. After many emails to Gateway Support - and a internal Hard Drive was purchased that was recommended to fix the problem... and didn't - I tried to get it serviced locally. Only option is to ship back to Gateway factory and pay AT LEAST another $254, I decided to cut my losses and bought an HP computer. HP's customer service actually provides service and their produces are reliable. Gateways cost less, but you get MUCH LESS FOR THE MONEY TOO!! Save yourself heartache and trouble and bypass Gateway products.
not worth the money or aggravation March 25, 2008 Kelly K. O'keeffe 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have had this machine for six months and it has been nothing but aggravation. I think I know all of the Gateway Support Technicians on a first name basis. Out of the box, the laptop had issues. It locked up and crashed. Repeated calls to Gateway produced conflicting excuses - one technician told me that you had to run the anti-virus software at all times, another told me that the McAfee Software that came on the system was actually incompatible with Windows Vista. They recommended deleting programs that I would not use that came pre-loaded - it didn't help. I bought more memory - it didn't help. The machine just crawled at a snail's pace. My 17 year old won't even use it, she says it is too slow to bother with. The final straw was this week. The whole system just would start up and crash, start up and crash. So I called Gateway (again) and they told me to do a system recovery and back up. Well the recovery worked but the backup didn't. I lost all of my files. The tech said "oops". So now I have a crappy laptop and no personal files. No tax returns, no pictures, no personal files. And they say "oops". I will never buy a Gateway again. [...], and 6 months of my life.
