The Aspire Timeline series was conceived around the duration of the battery, more efficient and less harmful to the environment. From now on you can turn on your Aspire Timeline in the morning and turn it off in the evening without ever having to charge it! Light as your time can be!

Amazon.com Product Description

Jump Lists
New in Windows 7, Jump Lists take you right to the documents, pictures, songs, or websites you turn to each day. To open a Jump List, just right-click a program icon on the Windows 7 taskbar. (You'll also find them on the Start menu.) What you see in a Jump List depends entirely on the program. The Jump List for Internet Explorer 8 shows frequently-viewed websites. Windows Media Player 12 lists commonly-played tunes. Your Jump List missing a favorite? You can "pin" whatever files you like there. Jump Lists don't just show shortcuts to files. Sometimes they also provide quick access to commands for things like composing new e‑mail messages or playing music.

Improved Windows Taskbar
In Windows 7 you can "pin" favorite programs anywhere on the taskbar for easy access. Not crazy about the icon lineup? Now you can rearrange them any way you like by clicking and dragging. Finally, there are new ways to preview windows. Point to a taskbar icon to see a thumbnail preview of open files or programs. Then, move your mouse over a thumbnail to preview the window full-screen. You can even close windows from the thumbnail previews--a big time saver.

Snap
Ever need to cut through a cluttered desktop and quickly focus on a single window? Just click a pane and give your mouse a shake. Every open window except that one instantly disappears. Jiggle again--and your windows are back.

Which version of Windows 7 is Best for You?

Energy Efficient Intel Pentium Processor

Offering the latest in ultra-low voltage processing power, the dual-core Intel Pentium SU4100 has a has a power consumption rating of just 10 watts and a 1.3 GHz speed that's paired with a fast 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

Designed for use in ultra-thin laptops to balance the competing needs of high performance with battery consumption, the Pentium SU4100 features Intel SpeedStep technology, helping your system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease power consumption and heat production. It also comes with built-in Execute Disable Bit technology, which helps keep your laptop safe from viruses, worms, and other malicious attacks.

The Multi-Gestured Acer Timeline

A Multi-Gesture Touchpad allows you to pinch, flick and swirl your fingers across the touchpad for more natural photo and video viewing as well as intuitive navigation of websites. The Multi-Gesture Touchpad enables you to scroll, zoom in and out and flip through web pages, photos, spreadsheets and more.

The TouchPad can also be disabled with a one-touch button, eliminating accidental cursor movement with palms and wrists when using an external mouse.

Cool to the Touch

The Acer Timeline notebook series includes Acer's ComfyTouch technology, which uses an innovative Laminar Wall Jet Engine design to air-cool the processor and notebook case. Even when running for a full day the notebook remains cool in your hands or on your lap.

Easy Backup for Peace of Mind

The Timeline family of notebooks also includes a backup button that lets you easily select and protect your irreplaceable digital files through regular scheduled backups or on an as-needed basis. Data can be backed up to an external hard drive, flash card, thumb drive or to a secure hidden partition on their PC.

Extended Battery Life via Low Power Components and Acer's PowerSmart Features

While most notebooks with long battery life use higher cell batteries which protrude from the back of the notebook, Acer combined numerous low power components with a standard high-capacity 6-cell battery, allowing them to keep the design as small as possible.

In addition, a conveniently located PowerSmart button located above the keyboard allows you to easily extend battery life. A simple press of the button activates the advanced power savings settings, traditionally a tedious procedure accessed through numerous software-based steps. This one-button approach simplifies the process.

Lastly, an Acer PowerSmart adapter senses when the notebook is unplugged, and stops sending needless energy. It also stops pulling power from the wall outlet when the adapter is full. The PowerSmart adapter saves 1752 watts of energy a year--equivalent to lighting a 15-watt (65W equivalent) light bulb for 116 days.

3 out of 5 stars Spent more time in repair than in use!   March 13, 2010
Tanner (NJ USA)
I got this laptop for Christmas and it worked well for a month!
Then the keyboard started acting funny and computer kept turning on and off by itself!
Had to send it back for repairs where they replaced the keyboard and some other stuff.
Got it back and it wouldn't boot up. Literally sent it back to repair place in Texas the
same day I got it back from there!

Was in repair for 2 weeks. Just got it back and they replaced the main board!
So I've got a new computer except for the hard drive!
Probably just had a lemon, but I wish I had gotten something else!
Keep waiting for something else to go wrong!

5 out of 5 stars nice laptop   March 12, 2010

I chose this laptop because if its light weight and portability. It works well and is easy to carry around. The speed is good and more than adequate for running applications like Word and surfing the net. The battery life depends on what you are doing. It won't surf the web for 8+ hours, but will probably run a small application for that long. Overall, it has performed as expected.

5 out of 5 stars Great Laptop for the Money   March 8, 2010
RTSboy (Charlotte)
I have been using this laptop for over a month and have been very impressed. I wanted the optical drive and the 14 inch model was the smallest model that still offered it. The laptop is very thin and light and is about the same size as the comparable Mac Book Pro. I debated on whether or not to make the jump to a Mac but decided to give Windows 7 a try because all of my existing software is Windows based. So far, Windows 7 has been a pleasant upgrade. I loved XP and it took roughly 5 minutes to learn how to navigate the new OS and it runs smoothly. The battery life is incredible and I have no trouble making it through the work day. I am also a grad student who carries this everywhere and it has exceeded all expectations. For the money you get a thin, light laptop that runs cool and quiet all day.

1 out of 5 stars Broken, Defective,   February 21, 2010

I have had to return 2 of these due to broken or screen defect. the first had a broken part and the second had a 2 inch band on the left of the screen with blurry pixels. I have seen the good reviews but have not had the good experience.

5 out of 5 stars 2 months in and no complaints   February 20, 2010
R S (USA)
Buying this product, I didn't set my expectations sky-high, as I thought that the low price tag (compared to other computers with similar specifications) had to signify some hidden flaws; either that, or corner-cutting production values. So I'm pleased to say that this computer has blown away these cautious expectations and has delivered an experience roughly equal to that of the 2008 Macbook that it's replacing.

The computer is everything as advertised: the battery life is pretty great. With basic Internet use (web browsing and occasional spontaneous video playing or the like), the battery lasts at least 8 hours. It lasts 6.5 hours with WiFi turned off and a DVD playing in the disc drive, and it lasts 5 hours on Netflix Instant Watch. Even though this computer is quite a bit heavier than my Acer netbook, it's almost, ironically, just as portable, because I don't feel the need to bring the charger with me, like I do with the netbook.

The computer looks and feels great. It's thin and deceptively light, and it absolutely never overheats, which makes it very comfortable for extended use on your lap (a laptop that can actually be used on your lap--it's still somehow a high concept). The design is more workmanlike than artistic (if my Macbook was a Porshce, this might be a Honda Accord) but the build is quality with aluminum making up the lid and chassis.

The specifications are pretty nice--320 GB hard drive (when all's said and done, you get closer to about 290 GB), 4GB DDR3 memory. The 1.3 GHz single-core processor had me slightly worried at first (the Macbook had 2.1 GHz), but the computer handles all tasks and multitasking just great--no significant lagging.

Other nice things I can comment on are the Windows 7 OS, the 3 well-spaced USB ports, the inclusion of an HDMI port, the chiclet-style keyboard, and well-placed WiFI and eject buttons.

Overall, my experience with this Acer Timeline has been very satisfactory and I've had minimal to no complaints. I think this machine can offer you an experience equal or surpassing other machines with higher price tags and I highly recommend it!

I bought mine, by the way, from [...] for $645 including tax and 1-day shipping. I think this might save you maybe $20 depending on where you buy it, so just a tip.
