3 out of 5 stars Fun for beginners   April 11, 2008
night gal
My husband bought this telescope for me, as I had always wanted one. The optics are sharp. The electronic finder works well enough, but I keep forgetting to turn off the switch, so a $4 battery often lasts only one night. Focusing is easy.

The main difficulties are the stability of the attachment to the tripod and the ease of fine adjustments. Since you are looking at a small field of view, any little jiggle can cause you to completely lose what you are looking at. And since you have to follow the object as the earth rotates (it moves faster than you'd expect), you need to constantly make tiny adjustments to keep the object in view. This telescope's rod adjuster is hard to control for small movements. I don't know how it compares with other telescopes.

I have enjoyed it, but wish it had a sturdier tripod and adjuster.
