Amazon.com Product Description Protects lenses from dust, moisture, scratches, and other damage. These filters can be kept on the camera at all times.
Product Description Film, as well as video, often exhibits a greater sensitivity to what is to us invisible, ultraviolet light. This is most often outdoors, especially at high altitudes, where the UV-absorbing atmosphere is thinner; and over long distances, such as marine scenes. It can show up as a bluish color cast with color film, or it can cause a low-contrast haze that diminishes details, especially when viewing far-away objects, in either color or black-and-white. Ultraviolet filters absorb UV light generally without affecting light in the visible region. It is important to distinguish between UV-generated haze and that of air-borne particles, such as smog. The latter is made up of opaque matter that absorbs visible light as well as UV, and will not be appreciably removed by a UV filter. The UV Protector shields lens from dust, moisture, scratches, and breakage.

Nice item, but Amazon is mucking things up September 29, 2008 J. Johnson (Virginia) Very clean piece of glass. I'm not to impressed with the color of the filter, would like it to be just basic black, but it'll do. I only use filters when I need to, not as extra piece of glass for safety. That's why I bought the ultra clear. The Tiffen Digital HT Ultra Clear Filter was just released this year. BUT amazon.com has ALL of the reviews for Tiffen's filter lumped together for EVERY one they sell on their website. AMAZON you have some cleaning to do, as well as you need to put some thought into upgrading your websites search function for items.
Price was right September 16, 2008 T. Purcell (Houston) Item arrived on time. No problems visible even though it was an "open box". I've read this in other Amazon reviews about merchandise that came from Amazon. No harm as long as it works.
It's glass, and you can see through it. September 1, 2008 Rugersix (SAN FRANCISCO, CA USA) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
It is fine. If you want to spend more, I am glad I am not married to you.

It's like not having anything on at all. But isn't that the point. It is there to take the abuse if an accidental bump to the lens happens. I think it is a wonderful investment to protect a $1700 lens.
