5 out of 5 stars Best 32" LCD HDTV of 2007   March 6, 2008

I received my Samsung LNT3253H on December 5, 2007 via the Eagle white glove delivery from Amazon. It replaced a 10 year old 27" Sony Trinitron TV in our master bedroom. We've run it at least an hour and a half per day and have not had a single problem with the unit. Delivery went flawlessly. Two polite gentlemen carried the unit up to the master bedroom, unpacked it, powered it up, and walked me through the startup menu to demonstrate that the unit was not DOA.

The best thing about this HDTV is the PQ. It is excellent from all input sources, even SD satellite signals via the RF connection. The PQ on this set from all sources puts to shame the PQ on our 4-1/2 year old Samsung DLP HDTV. It brought the WOW factor back to HDTV for me. It is obvious why the Samsung LCDs in general and the XX53s in particular scored so well in CR's evaluations. Also, viewing angle with this set is as good as any LCD HDTV I've seen. Finally, don't be worried that this unit is 720p resolution and not 1080p. You don't need 1080p on HDTVs 40" and smaller, as you wouldn't see any difference in PQ with 1080p compared to this HDTV's excellent 720p PQ on only a 32" screen.

Since this is a bedroom TV, we are relying on the on-board sound system. We have not been disappointed. It is excellent considering that it is a TV sound system.

The unit gets high marks for overall styling, but the remote is only average. The unit also has more input connections than I could ever conceive of how to use up.

If you are looking for a 32" HDTV, this is the one you should buy, and you should buy it from Amazon.

1 out of 5 stars Loud Hissing Noise!!! BEWARE!   March 4, 2008

Like just about every other person on here, I too have the loud hissing noise issue. I had owned a Samsung TV in the past and I also own a 22inch Samsung monitor so I didn't think twice before ordering this Samsung 32inch TV.

After waiting 2 weeks and making numerous phonecalls to the service center Samsung referred me to, the guy came out and swapped out the main board and the problem still persists. I called them today and they are ordering a new Balis and power supply and hopefully one of those two items will fix the problem.

I love the TV otherwise but I just can't stand the loud whistling noise. Samsung definitately needs to recall these TV's or fix them or something!

4 out of 5 stars All-around solid HDTV   February 29, 2008

I purchased this Samsung HDTV a few weeks ago after the TV in my bedroom broke. I did some research and picked this over a similar Sharp TV because of people's quality concerns with the Sharp. I picked the Samsung of the Sony Brevia because I liked the styling of the Samsung better.

Picture quality is excellent, as is the styling. I don't tend to crank the sound in my bedroom but this TV seems to have plenty of volume and the sound quality is good for onboard speakers. The TV has inputs on the side and back which are handy.

My only suggestion is that they make the base either adjustable, or just shorter. I need to use the base and if it were a little shorter I would be able to snug the TV closer into the corner of my bedroom.

Based on my experience I doubt you'd be disappointed with this TV

1 out of 5 stars Loud Hissing Noise   February 28, 2008

My two-month old TV has now started making a loud hissing sound that starts about 1 hour into viewing. Nothing will stop it until I turn it off. It's definitely the TV and not the cable hook-up because I have unplugged the cable and the TV still makes the noise. The sound is like like the whistling noise a tea kettle makes when it's boiling--which means it is very loud and very annoying.

Right now my brand new $900 Samsung TV is nothing more than a very expensive dust collector until it's fixed--and I am not happy about that one bit! I am so sick of modern technology not working! My cheap old $100 Walmart tube TV works better than this.

When I purchased this Samsung reviews were stellar and I didn't think twice about buying it. Now I am reading all sorts of similar hissing and buzzing complaints. Well but for the loud hissing sound, I would have given the TV a 5-star review too based on the picture quality and features.

Since this technical issue is not happening on every TV all I can say is if you buy it, cross your fingers and hope you are one of the lucky ones--for two months I thought I was. I hope Samsung can fix my TV and doesn't make me ultimately regret not purchasing the Panasonic TV I was looking at that also received rave reviews.

UPDATE: Samsung did fix my TV under warranty. I called Samsung. Samsung put me in touch with a local TV repair shop. Service shop picked up my TV and kept it for about two weeks to repair. Returned it with hissing supposedly fixed. A day later hissing started again. Called Samsung back to complain. Samsung sent the TV service shop another work order. Service tech came by and said he had the parts to fix it right then. An hour later, TV was fixed. Haven't had a single problem since (it's now the end of July).

The TV tech said Samsung used the wrong part on some models which causes the hissing. Replace the part (which he did) and hissing should cease immediately (which mine did).

Based on my experience, I would buy a Samsung again. Great warranty service.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic HD TV   February 25, 2008
What an excellent transaction! Great price for a superb TV. Delivered and set-up in 5 days. I saw this 720p TV right next to a Sharp 1080i and the Samsung was a much better picture. I highly recommend the TV and Amazon. No phone calls from sales people trying to sell you extended warranties, cables, etc.
