| Customer Reviews:
Buy this only if you are looking for tech convenience not for sound August 13, 2008 I was on lookout for a decent soundbar and not on a big budget. The sony HTCT100 seemed to fit well within my budget. But I was very disappointed on the sound front.
Pros Looks good Lots of inputs HDMI switching capability Works well with Bravia.
Cons Not enough /good sound.
Bottomline if you are looking for better sound you will be disappointed. I did not think it did much better than my TV speakers(yes although I will admit it added a little more base notes).
But I was not willing to spend 300 for that. So I returned this.
Great sound! August 13, 2008 I am very pleased with this product. Not only does it look sleek and unobtrusive, but it sounds great!
Good (not great) Sound, Connectivity Issues August 12, 2008 I've got an older plasma TV with a single DVI (think HDMI without sound...) input. The HDMI switching and being able to stop using the built-in speakers seemed like just the ticket. It turns out that the unit will not use sound from HDMI input from either my Comcast DVR or my upscaling DVD player when I use an HDMI to DVI cable. As a result I'm running audio to the TV then back to the HT-CT100 and have lost the advantage of have HDMI switching. BEWARE if you've got a DVI input to your TV.
The surround-sound effect is fairly limited. Mucking around with the field effects and the center sound level is necessary to get a reasonable approximation of surround-sound. Bass, mid-range and treble reproduction is very good. The volume is adequate but certainly not huge.
For my situation, the unit is just barely a keeper. For someone with HDMI inputs to the TV, it's a pretty good value.
Worth the price August 12, 2008 Recently purchased Samsung's LN52A750 52" LCDTV. A generic surround sound system would have required me to crawl under my home (crawl space) to route speaker wires. I was concerned that wireless surround sound systems would not provide the power or quality I was looking for (for the price). Sony's HTCT100 offers a great alternative if you're seeking versatility and sound quality for a very affordable price. I highly recommend this solution, especially if your TV room is about 15' x 25' or smaller.
WWWWOWWWW!!!!!!!! August 10, 2008 Yup! That's all I can say when it went live,WWWOWWW!!! It blew me away and I can't stop smiling. For the price and ease of set up, can't beat that. Sony, I salute you!!! Hooked it up on my LNT4071 with BDP300 in our bedroom, aaahhh!!! what a rushhhhh!!!! Of course cannot beat nor compare to a real 5.1 but the illusion of having a 5.1 in a small room without the wires are amazing. A must have product and I guarantee it you'll be very happy and satisfied. As a matter of fact, I'll purchase another one for my eldest' room. And thanx for the positive reviews (of course, to some negative reviews). Gotta go, I'am watching the 300, in our bedroom!!!HA!HA!!!!
