Product Description Many say that the receiver is the heart of your home theater. That may be true, but it still needs movies and music pumped to it, and there's no better delivery mechanism than the rugged DV-SP1000. One look at this DVD player and you'll know it's built to last. Vibrations are kept to a minimum, with a sturdy chassis and loading mechanism specifically designed for the smoothest delivery of your movies and music. "Universal" takes on an entirely new dimension, with the DV-SP1000 not only providing you with DVD Audio/Video and Super Audio CD playback, but also analog and pure digital reproduction. The inclusion of HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) and i.LINK (IEEE1394) deliver high-quality movies and multi-channel music. Add Onkyo's VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) and FlexScale from Oplus (which enables video scaling of DVD discs from 480i to 480p/720p/768p and 1080i) and you're guaranteed superlative audio and video playback that other manufacturers can't match. You'll find all of this contained within a THX Ultra certified component that's ready to deliver a sensational standard of audio and video to your home theater.

Great sound / poor customer service February 22, 2007 W. STOCKTON (Hernando, MS United States) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this unit sometime back and to the credit of Onkyo, it is the best sounding DVD/SACD player I have ever heard. The picture is near perfect too. I have read where others have had lip sync isssues but I have not encountered this problem. My problem is getting the HDMI to talk to my brand new Sony ES receiver, but the connection will not work. I can connect any other cheap HDMI player to the receiver with no HDMI issues. I have to connect the Onkyo DV-SP1000 directly to my tv via HDMI. With that said, I have tried to get support from Onkyo by phone and email. I couldn't even get them to respond to my emails until I sent a nasty message. Finally, they responded to me. I told them my issue and they said they would get back with but never did. All I really wanted was a firmware update that is available for my player. When I called, the support person said that there was no firmware update as far as he could tell. My player has firmware version 1.1 and other people have version 1.2. So how can they say that there is no firmware update? How can you pay $2000 for a DVD player and get absolutley ZERO support? The customer support of Onkyo is by far one of the worst I have ever encountered. If you actually get to talk to someone, they act as though you are bugging them. It is just a nightmare. If you expect customer service, don't buy an Onkyo. I would actually rate this product a 4 and the customer service a ZERO.
This player has problems... buyer beware October 18, 2006 Farb (Denver, CO) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The build quality on this player is amazing. And if you're planning to use this player for audio discs, you'll be hard pressed to beat its price/performance. However, if you're planning to watch DVD movies with the volume above 0, be warned. This player has lip-sync issues over HDMI with some displays. To be fair, many people have reported no problems at all. I happen to be one of the ones that do (on a Sony HS-51 projector). The delay between the audio and video made many movies unwatchable. And the onboard lip-sync adjustment is useless since the problem appears and disappears throughout the same movie. When I got the player and reported the problem to Onkyo, they acknowledged it and said that they were working on a fix. I kept the player because it was so good in every other respect. Almost a year later, no fix was provided and I had to send it in for service before the warranty ran out and I had no recourse. Onkyo (and their various service centers) have had the player for over 4 months now and there's still no resolution. They have some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced from a consumer electronics company. I'll give the player 2 stars for the build quality and audio capabilities. The sync problem and disgraceful customer service tarnish what would otherwise be a great unit.
