5 out of 5 stars Works for me   March 13, 2010
Gary O (PA)
No idea why some are saying this is noisy. No problems whatsoever tied into my Samsung LCD. Quiet as a church mouse. Couldn't ask for a better player. Crisp, clean superb picture.

1 out of 5 stars NO GOOD!   March 9, 2010
Dcn. Tom (Lansing, MI)
First problem: Player would 'default' to showing "Closed Captions" on some DVD's - have to return to Disc Menu to turn off CC and restart DVD.

Second problem: Picture would "freeze" - have to restart the DVD

I would like to give this player a "No-Star" rating since giving it one star might mean it has some usefulness - which it didn't.

Solution: Returning unit for a diferent brand.

ON THE PLUS SIDE: Amazon's total "hassel-free" policy to return the unit (as long as it was returned within the first 30 days)

1 out of 5 stars STAY AWAY!   March 5, 2010
Charles D. Lee (Phoenix, AZ)
I got this DVD player as a replacement for my refurbished Samsung DVD1080P8, the previous years model. At around 60 days, the player had problems playing discs of all kids.

To make a long story short, it took me FOUR MONTHS of going back and forth and them sending me 2 other defective players before I got a NEW P9. Now, it's been less then six months (I'm guessing) and this NEW player has stopped paying audio.

Throughout this entire ordeal, most of the CS agents from two different companies (one Samsung and the other a contractor for Samsung) couldn't give a hoot that I have a Samsung 56" DLP HDTV, a Samsung $2000 fridge, and have owned nothing but Samsung cell phones for almost 15 years.

Now I'm on Samsung "Chat" hoping just how much teeth-pulling I have to endure to resolve this matter. Do yourself a favor and buy something else.

I have NEVER had such a bad overall customer service experience in my entire LIFE! No mattere how they resolve my problem this time, I will never forget it. If I don't get a satisfactory resolution TODAY, I'm buying a Sony.

5 out of 5 stars Sleek DVD player   March 3, 2010

This beautiful DVD player has worked just fine so far. I haven't had the chance yet to try out some of the more advanced features, but just knowing they're there makes me happy.

4 out of 5 stars Stumbled onto a nice upsampling player   February 25, 2010
M. Snell (Ken Caryl Ranch, CO)
Yesterday I picked up a Samsung DVD-1080P9 at Best Buy. It was a floor sample, no box, manual or remote. I offered $30 and that was approved by someone, and brought it home to add into our developing bedroom theater. I used an old HDMI cable, probably from Dish Network, to connect it to our brand-new Samsung LN32B360 TV, connected the analog audio outs to our old Yamaha Rx, and let her rip. We use Logitech remotes, so I plugged this player into the bedroom setup and turned it all on. There was a Best Buy demo DVD still in the drive and WOW! I immediately noticed the difference from our old Panasonic progressive scan player. Played a disc we had watched the night before and again, visibly better, much better. Super crisp & detailed images, rich color, no motion-blurring, clear sound. Seems comparable to the Oppo we use in our main theater for $160 less. I once experienced the auto-on subtitles that others bitch about, not a big deal to me, push 7 on remote and they are gone.

I put some images and videos onto a USB 2 flash drive out of curiosity. It played the stills OK, but they looked way over-saturated. Did not see videos recognized, but this was about a 90 second exercise; the USB was not my reason for buying it. The disc drive is slightly noisy while loading, but silent during play. The response time from input to remote is a touch slow, best to not start pushing buttons in frustration, just realize that it takes a bit longer than you would like.

I'm very happy to have found this player, will update the review if anything changes.
