Nice but... March 17, 2010 Lee-Anne Phillips Sony DVP-FX930 Portable DVD Player
I purchased this DVD player on January 2nd, 2010. It had problems from the start but was persuaded by Sony Support that it was "just static electricity" and told to engage in an elaborate ritual to make it work again. It did work, for a while -- about a month -- and then required the ritual to be performed again. It worked until almost the third of March, one day past its labor warranty date, and is now a paperweight. The rituals don't work, and it never did work reliably.
I often but Sony electronics, because I've had very good luck with them in the past, but I seem to have got a real clunker this time, and partially blame Sony Support for stringing me along with temporary fixes until it went past the labor warranty, which means of course that it's not worth sending it in for repair, and if I did, what's the point?
My advice is, if *anything* goes wrong, demand a replacement straight away, because it's easy to be suckered into time-wasting procedures that push the time out until you have no real recourse.
sony 9" portable dvd player March 16, 2010 belinda (California, USA) picture perfect, sounds good BUT the problem is it won't play all DVDs although they are of the same region. I tried 2 new Sony portable dvd players because I love the clarity of the picture but they have the same problem. So sad I had to buy another brand. I love Sony!
Item didn't work March 14, 2010 Oyjord (Riverside, CA) The Sony player simply didn't work new out of the box. I tried multiple discs, using AC power, and it couldn't play a single one. We returned the item to Electronics Expo (which is none too easy). We recently bought a comparable Philips portable DVD player, and so far it works like a charm.
sony March 10, 2010 A. H. Carlson (Springfield Illinois) Could not get it to go into full screen when viewing a 1:33 film. Tried two units to no avail. Otherwise not bad. The controls are somewhat cumbersome.
Excellent for its purpose March 8, 2010 Scott (Illinois) With headphones, the quality of this unit from an audio standpoint is excellent, if you have something other than cheap ear buds. You get what you pay for, and who cares if this is an improvement over something else? It's nowhere near as good as my 55" LCD TV either. But if we evaluate it based on its own merits, which we should, then it's an excellent buy. The transport buttons need a little getting used to, but, with the multi-angle remote, that's not an issue. With headphones, you'll have an intimate movie experience that isolates you as nothing else can. The picture quality is good, but you do have to maintain the correct viewing angle. Don't expect this to be more than a 9" portable DVD player! But as a 9" portable DVD player, it does a great job. And finally, I thought that the screen would be too small for viewing, but, as it turns out, watching this unit from a foot away is the same thing as watching a huge flat screen that's over on the wall.
