EXCELLENT UPCONVERSION DVD PLAYER!!!! July 5, 2008 For the price, this might just be the best UPCONVERTER in it's class. I strongly recommend considering this one. I have bought several for friends and family...Still no complaints or problems with ANY OF THEM...
I'd Recommend Avoiding This One July 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Picked up this DVD player when I purchased a Samsung LCD, which I connected via HDMI cable. There were problems instantly, in the form of a "Searching for Signal" message. I'd lose signal on the menu screen, the title screen, and roughly once every couple of minutes while watching a movie.
I switched the HDMI cable between three different ports on the television, and had the same problem. I switched to a different HDMI cable, and still had the same problem. Even watching DVDs at 480p produced the same problem. I exchanged this DVD player for another Samsung (same model), and was still cursed.
Finally switched to a Sony 1080 DVD player (same cost), and have had no problems at all. Strange that Samsung would apparently produce a DVD player that was not completely compatible with their own HDTV, but that was definitely my experience, with two of them.
Works, but slow in ways that affect usability July 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Overall: don't stress if you bought it, but if you haven't bought it yet, if you can find something different in the same price range, you might want to try it.
Positives: 1. works. 2. I love the feature when you turn the power off, it remembers where you were in the movie. When you power it back on, it takes you right back there!
Negatives:
1. Reacts very sluggishly to the remote control. Not sure what the problem is. Not only do I need to be pointing exactly at the device to get it to register, I really have to jam the buttons down and hold them to get the action to take. As a result I will frequently hit the pause button and have nothing happen. Then I have to back up and try again.
2. Takes a long time to load the first time. Thankfully if I power down the dVD while watching it, it remembers exactly where I was, and takes me straight to that, so it's less painful when you are continuing.
good, except for CDs June 30, 2008 Its a good products and plays DVDs nicely, but when a CD is inserted the mechanical noise while the CD is playing is loud and the play often hesitates for several seconds at random times. We haven't tried Blu-Ray yet...
Remote does not work (others have had this problem) June 30, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought mine from Sam's Club and had the same problem with the remote that gork57 reported on 6/6/08. Despite using brand new batteries, the unit was often slowly responsive or frankly unresponsive to the remote. This rendered the unit unusable, which is a shame because it generated a nice upconverted picture on my 40" HD LCD TV via HDMI. The sound output was pretty good too. But really, the machine is useless without a decent remote.
