3 out of 5 stars Good antenna   October 8, 2008
Happy customer
I read the reviews about this antenna and seem promising. I have determined I live in a transmittion hog apartment. Using this antenna only gave me 3 or 4 HD channels. Using an amplified antenna i got more HD channels, but the reception was kinda tricky. Placement of the antenna and people around it would affect the reception greatly.
I'd say if you leave somewhere close to the transmition antennas, or far from big buildings this might be a good choice.

4 out of 5 stars Good antenna for digital reception   October 7, 2008
WILLIAM MCLEAN (Medford, OR USA)
I found the best location indoors was to mount it between the wall and the curtain rod in my living room - two inches from the ceiling. Sliding it along the length of the curtain rod gave me only one place that I could receive almost all digital stations that the channel locate function indicated was present. Redirecting the antenna, even at that height, did not improve reception of any channel. But all channels it does receive are razor sharp. Of course this number of stations will improve when all analogue stations convert to digital.

A Radio Shack signal booster did not improve reception. I put it together as per the instructions, and I put it together as per markings on the hardware indicated. Reception worsened either way. In fact reception was markedly reduced.

I first installed the Eagle Aspen antenna on my Sony Digital/analogue TV. At that same time the analogue tuner stopped working. So I later connected to my Haier 7" digital/analogue TV. The Haier worked fine, even improved reception over a single retractable extension rod antenna. A rod antenna, on a long cable for ease of repositioning, worked rather good but needed to be moved a lot when changing stations.

I do appreciate having a digital antenna at home that I don't have to get up and redirect every time I change stations. The Eagle Aspen is well built and needs only occasional redirection. But when going away from home, in my car or whatever, the single pole antenna will serve well enough on my little portable Haier 7" TV.

5 out of 5 stars Great price and great reception   October 1, 2008

This is a great antenna it comes with a clamp so you can mount it to a mast outside or just leave it inside. You see other reviewers say this is garbage or junk, sorry but they are idiots. They bought a UHF antenna this which is for High Def. You got Grampa Smith and Miss Clueless telling you they can't get 1/2 the channels, sorry but no DUH! They really don't understand this is a HD antenna not your rabbit ears. Yes it works and it works well it works better than my other HDtv powered antenna it works better than 2 other more expensive brands I bought at Walmart (RCA, Phillips). Yes, that's right and it's not going to work better than rabbit ears if your trying to pick obsolete signals. After FEB, 2009 your rabbit ears won't work and this will. I averaged 60-90% signal strength from my converter box with this antenna and only 30-60% with every other antenna I tried including rabbit ears. Yes, I was able to get one more station in because of this antenna. Having less then 50% signal strength is critical in HDtv. All the people with rating as 1 either got a defective product or clueless.

5 out of 5 stars Compact and works 33 miles from tower   September 19, 2008
I bought this for its small size. I have mounted it to my floor standing lamp indoor. Although I have built the 4 bay coat hanger youtube antenna myself, the lack of reflector and the lack of workmanship was causing lot of multipath issue. This antenna is worry free, I get 100% signals and get 33 channels in NY Metro area. This is highly recommended. Also as other have pointed out the plastic hosuing which keeps the balun in place broke on the first day. I used some cello tapes to secure it.

5 out of 5 stars Way better than the Phillips (formerly Zenith)   September 17, 2008

I have two of the Philips PHDTV1 Silver Sensor UHF/HDTV Digital Indoor TV Antennas (the Zenith version) and this antenna works way better than those at my home in the LA area and even costs less. I bought the others a few years ago and was never happy with them. This one does look ugly, but I just hung it on the wall like a picture anyway and it gets the main stations except for 7 and 13 - way more than the Zeniths got.
