I bought this gizmo soon after 9/11 to keep in the case of an emergency. I tried it out when I first got it by hand cranking the dynamo for a few minutes. The light that is produced is very very weak and only lasts a few minutes before becoming utterly dim.

The crank handle is also poorly designed - the shaft is made of hard plastic but the knob is short and stubby. After a few minutes of hand cranking my fingers got blisters.

The radio reception is all controlled by one circular knob that is difficult to control. Since the FM spectrum is so narrow it is hard to dial into a particular station.

I did not try out the ability to charge the device using the solar panel.

I picked up the item last night - which was sitting in my garage for the past 4 years, and after hand cranking for 5 minutes neither the flashlight or radio would work.

I would stay away from this device and go with something a little more sturdy.
