Though the one-watt radio is often used in indoor retail environments, it's not restricted to up-close conversation, as its signal covers up to 200,000 square feet indoors (or 15 floors) or 5 miles outdoors, depending on the nearby terrain and weather conditions. Thanks to the wide broadcast range, the radio excels whether calling for backup during a tense security situation, radioing the front desk that a customer is upset, or checking with other servers on the status of an empty table.
