5 out of 5 stars Great Radio   December 2, 2008
W. Hartl (Lambertville, NJ USA)
We get poor FM reception here- river valley with hills on either side. I plugged in radio and got clear reception from the two stations I wanted. Many other stations were also perfect. Music was rich and full and speech was crystal clear. Got best reception by placing radio on window sill (fits perfectly and looks good there because of its shape) with antenna extended straight up.

AM is fine. Many stations, some clearer than others. Not using external antenna. The only radio I have is the car radio and they seem to be about equal.

Got some unexpected static this evening which turned out to be the microwave. Whew!

The radio looks very good and workmanship is excellent. Dials are accurate and function smoothly. Easy to use.

It would be interesting to compare with a Tivoli or Bose- can't imagine better reception or sound than I already get.

Wish you could input sw radio for the speakers. I don't see anything that would function as an input port.

3 out of 5 stars Not As Great As It Used to Be   November 29, 2008

I had one of these a few years ago. I used it in my shop and it got beat up pretty badly and it was time to replace it. I finally found one. My sense is that they've gone to a much cheaper speaker. It is not as rich and full sounding as it used to be. That is a real shame.

1 out of 5 stars poor imitation   November 27, 2008
philly sports fan (east coast)
I own a GE super radio III and purchased it here at Amazon. I've had it a few years and it lives up to it's name, super radio. My brother liked it, so I bought him the RCA RP7887 super portable radio. We received it in good condition from Amazon. The bottom line is that this RCA super portable radio is a poor imitation of my GE super radio III. The RCA model doesn't receive as well as the GE. The RCA model just doesn't pull in the far away stations like my GE super radio III does. The bandwidth switch on the RCA model doesn't work as well as my GE model so receiving stations that are close together on the AM band is worse with RCA model. The RCA model has a nice sound, but it just doesn't have the performance to pull in far away stations and seperate them enough to listen to these stations comfortably. When my GE super radio III finally stops working, I certainly won't replace it with the RCA super portable radio.

5 out of 5 stars Butt ugly but beautiful sound !!!   November 20, 2008
Robert G. Parish (North west Ohio)
It is heavy and large and the controls are very spartan but it is the best sounding radio i have purchased at this price in my 68 years. Do not pay any attention to the venier scale it is not even close but that is a very minor thing. It gets am radio stations that the other radios in my house do not even come close to bringing in. I bought to use for work and for that use it is outstanding. I believe it is my next radio also.

5 out of 5 stars SUPER RADIO   November 2, 2008

The RCA RP7887 SUPER RADIO really is a great radio. I checked out many similar radio's that cost much more, like the cc crane radio plus which has very bad reviews. This radio is excellent. If only it had a digital tuner, it would be perfect. Im an electrical contractor and use this radio most every day while im working. The sound is very clear as I listen to talk radio. Music is great on it too. A Terk antenna helps with weaker stations. I hope this helps you decide.
